4. Putting into operation
Danger of electric shock!
Before switching on the ignition, connect the engine-
speed measuring module with engine ground or the B-
battery terminal via the ground terminal.
4.1 Connecting the engine-speed measuring module
– Make a ground connection from ground terminal (11) to engine
ground or battery terminal B-
– Connect inductive coupling loop (2) to socket X1 (13)
– Connect speed sensor (6) to socket (16)
– Connect hollow connector of plug-in power pack to socket
+12 V DC (14)
– Connect plug-in power pack to 230 V/50 Hz socket outlet with
grounding contact
i The engine-speed measuring module does not have an On/
Off switch. The module is switched on and off by plugging in
or unplugging the plug-in power pack or by means of the main
power switch if an engine diagnostic system is used.
4.2 Connection to an engine diagnostic system
! Please observe the technical data and operating instructions
of the engine diagnostic system if the engine-speed measu-
ring module is used as an additional or upstream unit in
conjunction with such a system.
If the engine-speed measuring module is used as an additional or
upstream unit in conjunction with an engine diagnostic system:
– Connect the engine-speed measuring module with the corre-
sponding input of the engine diagnostic system via the 12 V
pulse output (12).
i The 12 V pulse output supplies a 12 V pulse voltage where
1 pulse/720° CS.
or
– Connect the trigger clamp-on pickup of the engine diagnostic
system via the inductive coupling loop

4.3 Self-test and adjustment of the engine-speed
measuring module
4.3.1 Self-test
– Switch on the engine-speed measuring module
The version number now appears on the LCD display:
Vers. 1.00, 1.09
Vers. 1.00, 1.09
Vers. 1.00, 1.09
Vers. 1.00, 1.09
Vers. 1.00, 1.09
The engine-speed measuring module carries out a self-test. The
following messages appear on the LCD display during the self-
test:
A dot appears in the 2nd line of the LCD display for each
successful part test while the self-test is taking place:
Self-test successful
The following display appears if an error is found during the self-
test:
XX stands for the error number.
In this case please contact your Bosch after-sales service repre-
sentative stating the error number.
4.3.2 Setting the number of cylinders and engine type
The required number of cylinders and engine type must be set
after successful completion of the self-test. 4 cylinders and 4-
stroke engine are the default settings:
4Cyl/4
4Cyl/4
4Cyl/4
