Before using this equipment, you must read and understand all usage instructions in this guide.
USE AND PRECAUTIONS:
A lanyard is a piece of personal protection equipment; it should be allocated to a single user (it can only be used by one person at a time). Lanyards must not be
used for lifting equipment. Lanyards are supplied as twisted or Kernmantle rope (polyamide), webbing (polyester) or cable (galvanised steel). Their maximum
length is two metres (with connectors), except for anchorage lanyards. The lanyard will be attached to a system via connector (EN362). Product markings
should be checked periodically for legibility.
During use, take care of the amount of slack in the lanyard near a fall hazard. When adjusting the length of the lanyard, take care not to move into an area
where there is a risk of fall.
RESTRAINT LANYARDS (STANDARD EN354): Lanyards intended to limit travel in a space defined to avoid a possible fall.
A lanyard (conform to EN354) may be used with an energy absorber (conform to EN355) and 2 connectors, on condition that the
total length does not exceed 2 metres linked to a fall arrest harness (linked via connector).
Two separate lanyards, each with an energy absorber, should not be used side-by-side as a forked lanyard. The unused end of the
forked lanyard combined with an energy absorber should not be hooked to your harness.
Rope or webbing restraint lanyards: static breaking strength > 22 kN. Cable or chain restraint lanyards: static breaking
strength > 15 kN.
WORK POSITIONING LANYARDS (STANDARD EN358): On lanyards with length adjusters, set the required length by
moving the adjuster. Attach the lanyard directly to the safety belt with a connector. Position or adjust the work positioning lanyard in
such a way that the anchorage point is maintained at or above waist level and the lanyard is kept taut and free movement is restricted to a
maximum of 0.6m.Check the adjuster position regularly during use.
Work positioning lanyards: static breaking strength > 15 kN.
ANCHOR LANYARDS (STANDARD EN795): BERNER certifies that they have been tested in accordance with the standard EN 795.
Anchoring devices must not be used with angle irons smaller than 30x30 mm, or larger mountings not suited to the lanyard length.
EN795:1996 Class B anchor lanyards: static breaking strength > 10 kN
EN795:2012 Type B anchor lanyards:
Metal: static breaking strength > 12 kN / Non-metal: static breaking strength > 18 kN.
Before the installation of an anchor lanyard, it is necessary to check that the structure is able to
accept this maximum load: 12kN in the direction in which the force is applied
Lanyards without energy absorbers must not be used as fall arrest systems. A lanyard
cannot be used choke hitched.
During use, take all necessary steps to protect the equipment against any hazards entailed by
the operation.
Avoid use near sharp edges, thin structures or corrosion, for they may affect the lanyard
performance. If the risk evaluation conducted before work begins shows that the product will
likely be used above an edge, we recommend taking the proper precautions to protect the lanyard.
Choose a sufficiently strong anchor structure (min.12kN).
The lanyard anchorage point should be situated above the user (minimum strength: 12 kN). Make sure that the work is done in such a way as to limit the
pendulum effect, as well as the risk and the height of a fall. For safety reasons and before each use, make sure that in the event of a fall there is no obstacle
obstructing the normal deployment of the fall arrest system (free space under the user's feet). The air space under the user's feet should be a minimum of:

Before and during use we advise you to make the necessary, arrangements for a safe rescue if the need should arise.
This equipment is for the sole use of people trained, skilled and in good health, or under the supervision of a trained and skilled person. Warning! Certain
medical conditions may affect user safety. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
Be aware of the hazards that could reduce the performance of your equipment, and therefore the user's safety, if exposed to extreme temperatures (< -30°C or
> 50°C), prolonged exposure to the elements (UV rays, humidity), chemical agents, electrical constraints, twisting of the fall arrest system during use, sharp
edges, friction or cutting, etc.
Check the condition of the lanyard before every use: visual inspection to check the condition of the straps/ropes (no signs of cuts, burns or abnormal shrinkage),
the seams (no visible damage), the metal parts (no deformation or rust) and that the connectors work properly (locking/unlocking). Product markings must
remain legible. In the event of doubt regarding the condition of the device, or after a fall, the lanyard must not be reused, should be withdrawn from service
(marking it with the words "DO NOT USE" is recommended) and must be returned to the manufacturer or to a qualified person appointed by the manufacturer.
Before first use, it is recommended to indicate the first date of use, and then it is recommended that device be marked with the date of next inspection.
It is forbidden to add, remove or substitute a component of the device.
SUITABILITY FOR USE:
The lanyard must be used with a fall arrest system as defined in the product data sheet (see standard EN363) to guarantee that the dynamic forces exerted on
the user during the arrest of a fall is maxi 6 kN. A fall arrest harness (EN361) is the only body gripping device that may be used. It may be dangerous to create
one's own fall arrest system where each safety function can interfere with another safety function. Thus, read the instructions concerning each component in
the system before use.
VERIFICATION PROCEDURE:
The product has a nominal service life of ten years (in accordance with the annual examination by a competent person authorized by BERNER), although its
actual service life may be longer or shorter, depending on its usage and/or annual inspection results.
The lanyard must be checked systematically in case of doubt or after a fall and at least every year by the manufacturer or his authorised representative, to
guarantee its resistance and thus the safety of the end-user.
The product data sheet should be completed (by writing) after each verification. date of inspection and date of next inspection must be indicated on the data
sheet, it is also recommended to put date of next inspection on the product.
SERVICING AND STORAGE; (Comply strictly with these instructions)
During transport, keep the lanyard in its bag, well away from any cutting surface.
Clean it with water, wipe it with a rag and hang it up in a well-ventilated location, to let it dry naturally and away from a naked flame or heat source; follow
the same procedure for components that have become damp during use. The lanyard should be stored in its bag in a warm, dry, well-ventilated location. Keep
it well away from all heat sources.
