Heater Component Function
Air pressure switch
Safety device used to ensure that proper air pressure
(positive and vacuum) is created within the burner before
the gas solenoid valves are opened.
Bearings
Components used to support the shaft and reduce friction
between the pulleys and motor.
Belt
Friction drive component used for transmission of power
from motor to fan shaft. Used in conjunction with motor
and fan pulleys.
Belt tensioner
A spring loaded device which applies proper tightness to
the drive belt, thereby eliminating excess belt wear cre-
ated by over or under tension.
Capacitor
A storage device for power that assists starting and run-
ning the motor during a call for heat.
Fan
Component used in conjunction with the motor and fan
housing to move air.
Flame sensor
Used with the ignition control, it proves that burner flame is
established and keeps the burner in operation as long as
there is a call for heat.
Fuse
Safety device used to protect used to protect against an
over amperage condition, resulting from a direct short or
an electrical overload.
Gas Selector Valve
Allows easy gas conversion depending on gas being
supplied at job site. It eliminates the need for change-out
of the burner orifice.
Gas Hose
Flexible connector used to convey gas from the gas sup-
ply to the heater.
Heat exchanger
A sealed chamber used to transfer heat from the burner on
one side to cool air on the other side, thereby preheating
the cooler air.
Foreman Ductable Dual Fuel Indirect-Fired Heater
Owner's Manual • Foreman
High Limit Switch
Safety device wired into the control system
which is used to break an electrical circuit to the
to the burner in the event of overheat situation.
High voltage ignition cable
A cable connected between the ignition trans-
former and igniter that provide high voltage to
create spark.
Igniter
Ignition device used on automatic direct spark
ignition control systems. Ignites gas by spark.
Burner controller
Electronic circuit board that operates the burner.
It will safely shut the heater down if burner flame
goes out.
Ignition Transformer
An electrical component used to take incoming
line voltage and increase it to create high volt-
age that causes spark between the ignitor and
earth grounded surface.
Motor
Electric device used for air movement. Converts
electrical energy into mechanical energy.
Orifice
Metering device used to feed gas to burner at a
specific rate.
Pulleys
Grooved friction drive components responsible
for transmission of power from motor to fan
shaft. Used in conjunction with V-Belt.
Regulator
Device used in L.P. and natural gas distribu-
tion systems to reduce a higher inlet pressure
to a preset lower pressure. The regulator is
responsible to supply a steady outlet pressure to
the heater(s) despite changes in inlet pressure,
heater demand and weather conditions.
Selector switch
Electrical device which is used to allow the end
user to use the heater in either a heating or
ventilation application.
