5) Lay the protector next to the prosthesis.
INFORMATION: Make sure that the knee plateaus of the knee joint and protector are
at the same level (see fig. 1).
6) Mark the protector distally at the level of the foot contact surface (see fig. 2).
INFORMATION: For tall patients, shortening the protector may not be required.
7) Make another mark 1 cm above the existing mark.
8) Apply crepe adhesive tape proximally all around at this mark.
9) Use a vibrating or band saw to shorten the protector along the bottom edge of the crepe
adhesive tape.
6.1.2 Shortening the Protector – Final Shortening
1) Remove the crepe adhesive tape and lengthwise closure from the protector after preliminary
shortening.
2) Open the upper closure on the protector.
3) Spread open the protector and apply it to the knee joint (see fig. 4).
INFORMATION: The retainers of the protector (at the side in the upper closure area)
have to engage on the frame element of the knee joint (see fig. 5).
4) Fasten the upper closure.
→ The retainer of the upper closure has to engage on the frame element of the knee joint
(see fig. 14).
→ Slightly squeeze the protector together with both hands.
→ Engage the upper closure in the frame of the knee joint.
→ Push down the upper closure with the thumb after engaging it (see fig. 15).
5) Depending on the size of the chosen foot cuff, mark the following distances in at least 3
places on the protector (see fig. 6):
INFORMATION: The distances have to be measured respectively from the foot contact
surface, creating a cut edge parallel to the foot contact surface. This makes for an
optimum overlap of the foot cuff over the protector main unit (see Page 15).
• Size S: 110 mm
• Size M: 120 mm
• Size L: 125 mm
