Kerb climber
Retrofitting the kerb climber
To retrofit the kerb climber as an optional
Fig. 46
extra you need to take out the bolts of
the height adjustment mechanism. Start
with one side after the other. Procedure:
Take out the bolt of the left hand height
adjustment mechanism by using two 13
mm spanners. Replace the bolt with a
longer one and spacer, as supplied with
the kerb climber retrofit kit. Fit the left
hand kerb climber bracket on the inside
of the bottom frame with the height
adjustment bolt. Screw the second bolt
and spacer through the front hole of the three-point mecha-
nism for height adjustment into the bottom frame. Proceed in
the same way for the right hand bracket (Fig. 48).
Fitting and removal procedure
1. Locate the kerb climber bar into the left hand location
bracket and push it into the right hand receiver bracket.
2. Hold the kerb climber with your right hand in the receiver
bracket.
3. Align the holes of the receiver bracket and the kerb climber
tube and plug in the locking pin from the top.
4. Reverse the procedure to remove the kerb climber.

Front transfers
If you find that the kerb climber is obstructing your exit or entry
into the wheelchair you can swing the kerb climber back into
the reverse position. Follow the fitting instructions above, but
rotate the climber through 90° backwards.
The kerb climber must be returned to its operating position
prior to climbing kerbs.
Mounting the kerb or step
1. Approach the kerb (step) head on
driving forwards slowly and steadily
and always at a 90° angle (Fig. 49).
2. As the Kerb Climber makes contact
with the kerb (step), the wheelchair
should be moving slowly. Small
kerbs can be climbed from a stand-
still.
3. Apply sufficient power to the motors
to lift the front of the chair up onto
the kerb (step) and then apply
slightly more power and speed so
that the drive wheels climb the kerb (step) smoothly and
without hesitation. As far as possible, keep the joystick in
the straight forward position.
4. In accordance to the ground clearance, the maximum
obstacle height possible to pass is 50 mm (100 mm with
kerb climber).
