4 Application
4.1 Adjustment
1. Once the correct size has been determined for the patient put the
peroneal spring onto the affected side of the patient.
2. Check along the edges of the orthosis. Look out in particular for pressure
sores around bony structures (calcaneus, navicular, metatarsal I and II).
3. Check the shape of the calf clamp with the anatomical shape of the rear
muscles of the calf.
4. Changes to the shape of the peroneal spring may be brought about as
a result of partial heating at 70-90 °C. The intensity and the duration
of the heating is dependant on the strength of the material and must
be determined individually. With increasing heating the transparent
polypropylene transforms into a milky colour and becomes transparent
once again after cooling. The orthosis cannot be shaped when it is cold.
5. Put the peroneal spring into the shoe of the patient.
6. In the toe area the peroneal spring must be adjusted to the tip of the
shoe. The shape can be gently changed through cutting, milling and
rubbing at low pressure and with a low number of revolutions.
