Maintenance and repair
WARNING
Do not use halogenated hydrocarbon
solvents such as methylene chloride or
1, 1, 1-trichloroethane in this pump.
An explosion can result with aluminium
and/or zinc-plated parts in pump
come in contact with halogenated
hydrocarbon solvents.
Failure to comply may lead to death or
serious personal injury.
WARNING
Do not perform any overhaul
procedures prior to releasing all
pressure within system.
• Disconnect air supply line from pump
motor.
• Into an appropriate container, operate
control valve to discharge remaining
pressure within system.
Failure to comply may lead to
personal injury.
WARNING
Do not point a control valve at any
portion of body or another person.
Accidental discharge of pressure and/or
material can occur.
Failure to comply may lead to death or
serious personal injury.
Overhaul
NOTE
Refer to Fig. 3 (page 11), Fig. 4
(page 13), and Fig. IPB 1 (page 17) for
component identification for all overhaul
procedures.
Disassembly
Pump
1 Secure pump (3) in a soft-jaw vise.

For models 8540-B and 8549-C,
secure pump (3) at adapter (13).
1.2
For model 8549-B1, secure pump
at bung adapter (44).
2 Extend rod (38) to end of primer
body (43). Apply air to motor as
necessary.
3 Gently remove nut (40) from rod (18).
Use an appropriate size punch in hole of
rod to prevent rotation.
4 Remove primer disc (39) from rod.
5 Push rod into primer body.

Pump tube
(outer components)
6 Rotate primer body. Use a large wrench
or other suitable tool.
7 Remove follower tube (41) from
inner tube.
8 Unscrew air motor from adapter (13).
NOTE
Pump tube will break at one of three
places. Unscrew separated portion from
inner components of pump tube.
9 Rotate air motor. Remove o-ring (12)
from adapter.
10 Unscrew tube (26) from adapter.
Remove gasket (14).
NOTE
If pump was not leaking at top of
tube (26), do not separate adapter from
tube. Components are locked with
threadlocker.
