1-1 Mounting the Heads and Hoops
Accu-Tune Hoops
The Accu-Tune Hoop is an original TAMA bass drum
hoop designed to be used like a tom hoop without the
need for standard bass drum hooks. First, place the
batter side drumhead onto the shell, then the bass drum
hoop. Place the washers on each tension bolt. Then,
pass the tension bolts through the holes on the outside
of the bass drum hoop and to tighten the tension bolts
to the lugs to secure the head in place. (Fig. 1-1A)
Please note that the Accu-Tune Hoop has two sides.
As shown in Fig. 1-1B, install the Accu-Tune Hoop so
that the tension bolt holes are nearest to the shell.
To help you install the bass drum pedal correctly, the
Accu-Tune Hoop features a flat groove indicating the
pedal's proper placement position. A sticker is applied
to this section, so when attaching the drumhead to the
batter side of the bass drum, make sure to position that
this groove on the bottom side of the bass drum. (Fig.
1-1C)
Wood Hoops
Tension bolts and claw hooks are included in the parts
box. As shown in Fig. 1-1D, place the tension bolt
through the claw hook, then place claw hook on the
hoop to assemble.
IMPORTANT
* When securing the drumhead to the shell, do not tighten in
one place. Instead, fi rst lightly tighten each bolt with your fi n-
gers, then, using a tuning key, evenly tighten the head in the
diagonal order as shown in Fig. 1-1E.
* If desired, make a sound port hole in the front bass drum-
head to achieve a clear sound with punchy attack. A sound
port hole also allows air to escape the drum when played,
which lessens the bounce of the batter side drumhead. Gen-
erally, a hole with a diameter of 130
is cut slightly below and left or right off the center of the bass
drum head.
* Additionally, if a blanket or mute is placed inside the bass
drum, the sustain will shorten and the sound will be big and
tight – a very common bass drum sound.
