WARNING
The mowing blade has sharp edges. If it contacts your flesh,
it may cut you, even if it is not moving. Always wear heavy-
duty work gloves when sharpening or otherwise handling the
mowing blade, @ 5.5.
To sharpen the mowing blade:
► Remove the mowing blade, @ 23.4.

► Use a flat file to sharpen a dull mowing blade (1). In case
of more serious wear or nicks, resharpen with a grinder or
have it sharpened by an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer.
► Guide the file horizontally at a right angle to the side
surface (2) in accordance with the specified 30° angle.
► Lift the file on the backstroke. The file only sharpens on
the forward stroke.
► Turn the mowing blade and sharpen the other side
accordingly.
To balance the mowing blade:
► After resharpening about 5 times, check the mowing blade
for out-of-balance on a STIHL balancer (special
accessory) or have it checked and rebalanced by an
authorized STIHL servicing dealer as necessary.

23.4 Replacing the Mowing Blade
A cracked, damaged or worn out mowing blade may shatter
at high speeds and cause serious or fatal injury. To reduce
risk of injury from broken parts, check condition of the
mowing blade before mounting at regular short intervals
thereafter. Do not mount a worn, broken or damaged
mowing blade.

► Set the cutting height to position 6, @ 18.1.
► Fold down the handle, @ 12.2.
► Stand the mower on end.

► Use a piece of wood (2) to block the mowing blade (1).
► Remove the screw (3).
► Remove the mowing blade including the washer (4).
