Intended use
The Cadwell Sleepmate™ Snore Sensor or Microphone is intended to detect patient snoring
during sleep research and clinical studies of sleep.
Instruction for use
When positioning the snoring microphone, place it on a location of the neck that will be least
offensive to the patient. Do not place the microphone or sensor directly on the larynx. When
positioning the snoring sensor it is best to have the patient simulate a snore while you place
your fingers gently on the neck. Try to select a spot that presents the most "vibration"
associated with the sound. It is important that the sensor adhere closely to the
skin to insure that the vibrations of each snore are transmitted to the
sensor. Place the snore sensor so that the side with the raised bubble is next to the skin.
Attach using tape intended for facial use. Using an additional piece of tape about 15 cm (six
inches) away from the microphone or sensor can be useful for strain relief.
Connect the sensor to the appropriate channel input of your recorder. No battery or interface
is needed.
Ensure the sensor is securely attached to the patient as described and you have clear, reliable
signals prior to lights out.
Cleaning
You can clean the device by rubbing with any cleansing agent that is not corrosive toward
plastic.
The entire assembly must be completely dry before using again to insure
patient safety. For sterilization implement a standard procedure for gas sterilization. Do
not autoclave this product. Use the molded ends of the jackpins when removing the
connector from the junction box.
