GUIDELINES FOR MATCHING HITCH, TRUCK AND TRAILER
When connecting the trailer allow approximately 6 in (152.4 mm) clearance between the
top of the pickup walls and the underside of the front of the trailer for pitch and roll of
the trailer.
NOTE:
The 2 in (50.8 mm) value is an estimate of suspension compression due to king pin weight
of the trailer. This compression could range between 1 in (25.4 mm) - 5 in (127 mm)
depending on the truck being used and the trailer being towed.
Determine hitch height.
1 With the truck and trailer level, and parked on level ground, measure from the
ground to the king pin box, measurement A.
2 Measure from ground level to inside of the truck bed, measurement B.
3 Use the following formula to determine hitch height.
• A-B+2 in (50.8 mm) = Hitch Height
4 Measure from ground level to the truck bed side rails,
measurement C.
5 Measure the trailer at point D.
6 Use the following formula to determine trailer to side rail
clearance: Trailer/side rail clearance = D - C + 2 in (50.8 mm)
> 6 in (152.4 mm). Results must be greater than or equal to
6 in (152.4 mm)
