during temperature taking.
- The protective glass of the lens is the most important and fragile part
of the thermometer, treat it carefully and do not touch it with your
fingers.
Constraints
In order to obtain a stable and reliable result, before taking the
temperature:
- Move hair aside.
- If necessary, wipe away any perspiration from the forehead.
- Avoid drafts/any significant air flow (nasal cannula, air conditioning ...).
- Observe a 3-minute interval between two measures.
The reliability of the measure is not assured in case of temperature
measurement on another anatomical region (e.g. arms, torso ...).
IV. OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Each solid, liquid or gaseous body, has the property of emitting
energy by radiation with an intensity that depends on its temperature.
The THERMOFLASH® LX-26 EVOLUTION infrared thermometer
measures a persons temperature by means of the energy they emit.
This measurement is made possible by the instrument's external
temperature probe, which permanently analyses and records the
ambient temperature. In such a way that as soon as the operator holds
the thermometer close to the body and activates the radiation sensor,
the measurement is carried out instantaneously by detection of the
infrared heat emitted by the arterial blood flow. The result of this body
temperature measurement is then obtained without interference from
the heat of the surrounding environment.

Advantages of temporal artery (TA) temperature
The infrared arterial temperature can be measured using a device placed
on the forehead in the temporal artery region. The THERMOFLASH® LX-
26 EVOLUTION thermometer is designed for instant temple/forehead
temperature measurement without physical contact with the temporal
artery. This artery being relatively close to the surface of the skin and
therefore accessible, the blood flow is permanent and regular and
allows an accurate measurement of the temperature. This artery is
linked to the heart by the carotid artery, which is itself directly linked to
the aorta. It is part of the central arterial system. The efficiency, speed
and comfort of taking a temperature from this area make it ideal.
Practical considerations when taking a temperature
- In the interests of precision and measurement quality, it is essential
that each user is adequately informed and trained in the temperature
measurement technique when using such a device.
- It is essential to remember that the procedure of taking a temperature
although simple, should not be ignored.
- The patient should not carry out strenuous activities before taking
their temperature.
- Temperature fluctuations due to physiological factors must be taken
into consideration in the evaluation of the results:
• The temperature increases by 0.5°C/0.9°F between 6:00 and 15:00,
• The average temperature of women is about 0.2°C / 0.36°F and varies
according to their ovarian cycle,
• It increases by 0.5°C/0.9°F during the first half of the cycle and during
the first months of pregnancy.
• Age, sex, type and thickness of skin.
- The temperature of a seated person is lower by around 0.3°C -
0.4°C/0.54°F - 0.52°F than that of a person standing.

V. FUNCTIONS
1. A reliable and stable measurement result, thanks to the HEIMMANN
infrared detection system.
2. Audible alarm if the temperature exceeds the predefined threshold.
3. Memorisation of the last 32 temperature measurements.
4. Data displayed in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
5. Automatic stop (energy saver).
Additional uses
The THERMOFLASH® LX-26 EVOLUTION can also measure the
temperature of a surface or room temperature (in Surface or Room
mode).
