• Position the cables so that no-one can step on them or trip over them, and so that they cannot
be damaged or loaded in any other way.
• An extension cable should only be used if absolutely necessary. The use of unsuitable extension
cables may lead to fire and electric shock.
• Do not dismantle the charger. Instead, contact a qualified technician for any necessary
maintenance or repair work. Incorrect reassembly may lead to a risk of electric shock or fire.
• WARNING – DANGER DUE TO EXPLOSIVE GASES
• WORKING NEAR A LEAD-ACID BATTERY IS DANGEROUS. BATTERIES GENERATE EXPLOSIVE
GASES DURING NORMAL OPERATION. SO IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ
THIS OPERATING MANUAL AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY EACH TIME
BEFORE USING YOUR CHARGER.
• Follow these instructions – as well as the battery manufacturer's instructions and the
instructions issued by any manufacturers of any accessories you use that you intend to use
near the battery – to reduce the risk of battery explosion. Observe the safety information on
these products and on the engine.
2.3 PERSONAL SAFETY MEASURES
• While you are working near a battery, another person should be within earshot or at a distance
that allows them to come to your aid.
• Keep generous amounts of fresh water and soap nearby in case skin, clothes or eyes come(s)
into contact with battery acid.
• Wear full eye protection and protective clothing. Avoid touching your eyes when working near
the battery.
• If skin or clothes come(s) into contact with battery acid, wash immediately with soap and water.
If battery acid gets into the eyes, rinse them with cold running water for at least 10 minutes and
seek medical attention immediately.
• NEVER smoke or allow sparks or flames to develop near the battery or engine.
• Take special care to ensure that no metal tools end up on the battery. This may lead to sparking,
short-circuiting of the battery or another electrical component and cause an explosion.
• Remove personal metal objects such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches before working
with a battery. A battery can produce a short-circuit current that can melt rings or similar metal
objects and cause severe burns.
• Only use the charger for batteries. The device is not suitable for supplying power to any other
low-voltage electrical system. Do not use the battery charger to charge dry batteries that are
often used in household appliances. These batteries may explode and cause injury and
property damage.
• NEVER charge a frozen battery.
2.4 ELECTRICAL SAFETY
• The plugs of electrical devices must be compatible with the socket. Never change the plug. Do
not use adapter plugs with earthed electrical devices. Original plugs and matching sockets
reduce the risk of electric shock.
• Use the cable only for its intended purpose. Never use the cable to carry, pull or unplug the
electrical device. Keep the cable away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged
or entangled cables increase the risk of electric shock.
• If operating the electrical device in a damp environment is unavoidable, use a residual current
device for personal protection purposes.
