8 – Ex h – indicates that the equipment is protected against
the risk of explosion according to the criteria of the
EN 80079-36 standard (non-electrical equipment
for explosive atmospheres)
9 – ||C – Substances group Indicates the nature of the
explosive atmosphere. The || C group indicates
atmospheres in which the predominant gas is
hydrogen.
EN
10 – T3 ... T4 – temperature class of the appliance
(maximum temperature on the internal and external
surface of the pump which must be lower than
the ignition temperature of the gases, vapours
and mists present).
11 – Gb – EPL, equipment protection level. The "Gb" level
indicates that the equipment is protected against
the risk of explosion during normal operating
conditions and during foreseeable malfunctions.
12 – T. fluid – Indicates the maximum permissible temperature
of the pumped fluid. The temperature class (T3 or
T4) depends on the fluid temperature. Therefore
the user must process fluids at temperature, in
compliance with this classification, taking into
consideration the indications of this manual and
the regulations in force.
13 - WARNING – Consult the manual before installation
and use. This ATEX certified pump is subject to
special conditions of use to ensure safe operation.
See paragraph 6. INSTALLATION AND USE
4. SUITABILITY OF THE PUMP FOR THE
PLACE OF INSTALLATION
4.1 ZONES WITH POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVE
ATMOSPHERE
If the pump is used in areas with danger of explosion, it
must be checked that it is suitable for the classification
of the area and compatible with the characteristics of the
flammable substances present in the system.
The essential safety requirements against the risk of explosion
in classified areas are established by European directives
2014/34/EU of 26 February 2014 (regarding equipment) and
1999/92/EC of 16 December 1999 (regarding systems ).
The criteria for the classification of areas with risk of
explosion are dictated by the standards CEI EN 60079-10
and UNI EN 1127-1, as described below:
ZONE 0
ZONE 1
ZONE 2
ZONE 0
Area in which an explosive atmosphere, consisting of a mix
of gases or vapours, is always present or for long periods.
ZONE 1
Area in which an explosive atmosphere of gases or vapours
can be formed in normal service.
ZONE 2
Area in which it is difficult for an explosive atmosphere
8
consisting of a mixture of gases or vapours to form during
normal service and in which, for this eventuality, it can exist
only for a short period.
ATTENTION
In a plant, the manager must define the areas in which
explosive atmospheres may form, and/or choose the
equipment suitable for the areas and check the installation,
maintenance and operating conditions;
4.2 CHOICE OF PUMP
Based on the technical and legislative provisions, the
choice of the type of pump must take into account the
following factors:
- Group classification: mines (group I), surface systems
(group II);
- Zone classification: 0, 1, 2 (for which equipment of category
1, 2, 3 respectively are suitable);
- Characteristic of flammable substances present in the
form of gases, vapours and mists;
- Temperature class: T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6 (defines the
ignition temperature of the gases).
4.3 NOTE
- The pumps in category 2G are suitable for zones 1 and
2.
- Pumps with a given temperature class are also suitable
for all substances with a higher class (e.g. pumps with
a temperature class T4 are also suitable for substances
with temperature class T3, T2, T1).
- The explosion-proof pumps are designed for service
with ambient temperature in the field -20 ÷ 40°C and
atmospheric pressures from 0.8 to 1.1 bar
- A type "b" protection system (ignition source control
system, defined in accordance with the EN 80079-36
standard) is essential if a category 2 product is required.
When a category 3 pump is sufficient for the application,
it is not necessary to install a device to control the fluid
level (paragraph 6.6 - Precautions to avoid dry operation).
Therefore, the protection through control of ignition sources
("b") lapses.
- The pumps marked to be used in the presence of gases
of group C can be used for gases of groups A or B. The
classification of gases and vapours is in accordance
with the MESG values (maximum safety experimental
interstices) according to EN 60079-0.

5. EARTHING CONNECTION

Continuity of the metal parts is guaranteed.
The earthing point is identified
on the pump by the symbol:
FIG. 1 indicates where to earth the pump.

6. INSTALLATION AND USE

To install the pump, follow the instructions in PART 1 and
PART 2 of the use and maintenance manual.
Additional precautions are required when installing ATEX
pumps. Follow the instructions provided in the following
paragraphs.
Always earth the pump
before use.
