TOOL LANYARDS
CAUTION:
On some occasions the tools a user has to
carry for specific work at all heights do not come with built-
in or prescribed attachment options for the tool lanyard
connection. The D
WALT range of tool attachments are the
E
perfect solution for such cases and help provide a secure
connection for the tool lanyard in the tethering system.
Different tools will require different tethering system
components depending on their shape and weight. Do not
use the tethering system for pulling or towing objects.
Fundamental steps:
a ) Choosing the attachment point on the tool.
b ) Choosing the lanyard connector.
c ) Choosing the anchor point.
Choosing the attachment point on the tool:
a ) This may be a hole on the handle or on the body of the
tool. Alternatively, the body of the tool may serve as an
attachment point.
b ) If the above options are not available, the attachment
point may be created on the tool directly.
c ) Use only with tools that are specifically designed for
D
WALT
tethering, or by using appropriate
attachment
E
accessories. NEVER modify tools to create attachment points.
Do not attach to a tool in a way that keeps guards, switches
or lock-offs from operating properly.
d ) Make sure the taping area of the tool is free of sharp edges.

WARNING:
The tape layers will start to self-merge
immediately with permanent adhesion within 24 hours.
Repositioning is not recommended. Even though the
silicon tape may be used under wet or oily conditions,
an application on a clean, dry surface is recommended.
The tape is not reusable, but additional tape layers can
be added at any point in time. After application and
curing time, always check the strength of the application
by testing it with a 3 lbs./1.36 kg. load. Perform this test
before every use.
a ) Clean the surface to be used and cut a piece of the tape
to the desired length (i.e. from one point to another it should
have at least 10 loops for proper grip). The length should be
adjusted based on the size of the tool/handle.
b ) Make the 1st winding around the handle holding the
tape in position and rolling it around the desired part
(handle + attachment D-ring) until the tape is doubled over
itself. This initial winding tape on tape will help to secure the
future layers.
c ) Ensure that constant tension is maintained as
subsequent layers of tape are applied and that each new layer
partially covers both the bare part and the prior layer of tape.
This overlapping will help the tape to self-merge. The stretch
should be 40 to 50% of the remaining length of the tape; this
stretching ensures the application will hold.
d ) The tape must be wound at minimum over the entire
length of the attachment D-ring in one direction and
covered a second time over itself in the other direction. The
last layer of tape must be wound completely over the previous
layer without overlapping. Maximum tension is not
necessary on the last layer.
e ) Do not flex the tape too much as it may break.
