5.3 Switch/Motor Protection Relay
The following only applies for machines equipped with motor brake and/or no-voltage release feature.
The magnetic switch is not operational when machine is disconnected from power. It disengages in the event of
a power failure (no-voltage release). After power is restored motor has to be started again. A light hum of the relay,
when motor is switched off, is normal and does not represent a fault.
The built-in motor protection relay switches the motor off in case it becomes too hot. If this has happend let motor
cool down for 10 minutes before starting again.
On 3-phase machines the motor protection relay also cuts out if one of the phases should fail. If relay cuts out
repeatingly, check fuses of all three phases.

Operation
6.1 Selection of Saw Blade Speed
This band saw can be set to four different cutting speeds for best possible cutting results in different materials.
Depending on type of blade used and material to be cut, the following general recommendations are given:
a) 967/1160 m/min - all species of wood
b) 375/450 m/min - hardwood, certain plastics and NF-metals
c) 176/211 m/min - NF-metals and most plastics
d) 68/82 m/min - low-carbon steel, gas aerated concrete blocks
It is recommended to make trial cuts in scrap material at different settings to find the best cutting speed.
6.2 Change of Saw Blade Speed
To change cutting speed, the v-belts must be changed on the pulleys according to the instructions given on the table
inside the lower wheel housing door.
For easy change of belts a quick-action tensioning device is provided, activated by the cranked handwheel (20)
at lower right of the wheel housing.
6.3 Changing/Setting of Saw Blade
This band saw is factory-equipped with a general purpose woodcutting blade, size 3380x15x0.5 mm, tooth spacing
6 mm.
To change blade, remove rip fence carrier extrusion (86) from saw table. Then slacken blade tension by turning
blade tensioner handwheel (16) counter-clockwise, open both doors and swing saw blade guard out of the way.
Remove blade from machine.
Fit new blade and tension lightly. Blade must run in centre of band saw wheels or else it will jump off. To check
tracking turn upper wheel by hand. If necessary, adjust tilt of upper band saw wheel with starknob setting screw
(28) at rear of upper wheel housing. If a blade of different width is fitted. the thrust bearings of the upper and lower
blade guide must be adjusted. Set thrust bearings against blade so that its teeth are just running clear of the guide
bearings/pilot pins. Fully tension blade.
6.4 Guiding of Saw Blade
For a clean and straight cut sufficient lateral support of the blade is necessary. This support is provided by the
3-roller guide at the blade guard assembly. Keep the guide bearing set closely against the blade, with only minimal
play of the blade, for best performance.
The pilot pins (25) of the lower blade guide are subject to wear. Regularly check blade for play and adjust pins to
take the play out.
To adjust, loosen threaded pins at rear of pilot pin guide with Allan key 3 mm, provided with machine, and set pilot
pins against blade, touching it lightly.
