Tank.
To be installed in the correct way, the unit must be assembled with a bowl to prevent air from being drawn in and to ensure that the motor is
adequately cooled. Make sure that the pipes forming the system and the relative air exhausts are routed so as to eliminate any air pockets.
If the unit must be installed in the horizontal position, it must only be borne by the delivery duct and by the motor, with supports positioned halfway
along the motor itself. Make sure that no stress is created inside the unit through vibrations, misalignment or owing to the duct being incorrectly
fastened to the masonry work.
5.3

Mechanical connections:

Proceed with the following operations if the pump-motor unit must be assembled:
1) thoroughly clean the coupling surfaces;
2)
fix the motor in the vertical position and make sure that it is stable;
3) lift the pump vertically and align it with the motor;
4) slowly lower the pump complete with galvanic protector and O-Ring on to the motor, after having correctly positioned it in relation to the
shaft projection by means of the coupling;
5) tighten the fixing bolts in a uniform way and position the power cables under the protective flap;
6) join the electric riser cable (section 5.5).
5.4
Wet connections:
Electric pump installed in a well.
If the riser is made of plastic material, fix a steel safety cable to the pump. If the riser is made of steel, proceed with the operations described below:
1) apply a stub pipe to the pump delivery, locked in place with the safety plug, after having previously fixed the bracket in two halves to the
other end;
2)
if the installation is made with threaded pipes, always apply the relative threaded sleeve to the top end of all pipes in order to
prevent the components from working loose if the pipe slides on the bracket;
3) WARNING the threaded pipes must be fully tightened to prevent the risk of slipping due to the reaction torque;
4) position and fix the cable of the minimum level probe (if used), positioned to suit the minimum submergence required;
5) use a hoist to lift the electric pump and stub pipe without subjecting the components to bending stress, then lower them into the well;
6) WARNING
Firmly clamp the electric cables to the riser pipe every 2-3 meters to prevent the load from becoming excessive and from
rubbing against the sides of the well during starts and stops;
7) apply a stub pipe with a second bracket in two halves, and protect the conductors near the sleeves;
8) slightly lift everything, remove the first bracket and lower the unit until the second bracket rests on the top of the well;
9) repeat the operation until the required installation depth has been reached. Take great care to avoid impact, rubbing or forcing which could
damage the power cable or the unit itself;
10) once the pump has been installed, check the electrical insulation of the power cable-motor according to the limits given in section 5.5
"Electrical connections and information".
5.5
Electrical connections and information:
The electrical connections must be made by qualified personnel in strict compliance with all the laws in force in the country where the
unit is installed (CEI 64-8 standards in Italy) and as shown by the wiring diagrams supplied with the manual and affixed to the control
panel.
All the ground conductors must be connected to the grounding circuit of the system before the other conductors are connected, while
they must be the last to be removed when the motor is electrically disconnected.
The free ends of the cables must never be immersed or wetted in any way.
WARNING It is absolutely forbidden to use the grounding circuit of the submersed motor for other electrical equipment.
Connection.
Connect the cables and then measure the insulation resistance of the connection: minimum value with a test
voltage of 500 V D.C. in air 5M., in water 2M..
The characteristics of a cable used in addition to the standard one supplied with the electric pump must not be inferior to those of
the latter (contact Caprari or check the type of cable as indicated in the sales catalogue).
The connection must withstand the maximum pressure to which it is subjected (e.g. that exercised by the static level of the water in
the well), and the thermal alternation due to the work phases.
WARNING A poorly made connection can easily cause damage to the motor and/or the power cable.
Electrical equipment.
Make sure that the electric cabinet complies with the regulations in force in the country of use and that it possesses adequate protection.
It is advisable to install the electrical equipment in a dry, well ventilated place where the ambient temperature is not extreme (e.g. -20 ÷
+40°C). Failing this, special versions of the equipment should be used.
WARNING The contacts of electrical equipment that is undersized or of poor quality are liable to quickly deteriorate, consequently providing
the motor with an unbalanced power supply which could lead to damage.
If incorrectly researched and made, Inverters or Soft-starters could damage the pumping unit. Ask for assistance from
Caprari's Technical staff if the problems involved are not known.
All starting equipment must always be equipped with: main disconnector, thermal device sized for a maximum power draw no higher
than 5% of the rated current given on the motor's data plate and with an activation time of less than 30 seconds, magnetic device to
protect against short circuits.
- the following are also recommended: device to protect against phase failure, against dry running, a voltmeter and an ammeter.
The plant installer must check to make sure that the power supply system is protected against untimely starting due to power returning
after a blackout.

Power supply voltage

WARNING Make sure that the values of the voltage and frequency with which the motor is powered correspond to the values on the motor's
data plate. If the voltage value differs ±6% beyond the rated voltage, ask for special versions of the motors.
Make sure that the power cable has been sized to suit its length, the power draw of the unit and the temperature in air so as to prevent
a voltage drop exceeding the nominal rate by more than 2.5-3% (consult the technical annex of Caprari's submersed Electric pump
catalogue in order to correctly size the power cable). The condenser of a single-phase motor must have a 450 V power supply voltage.
Rotation direction (for threephase motors only).
There is no need to check to make sure that the single-phase motor of an electric pump turns in the right direction as this is univocal (anti-clockwise,
viewed from the shaft side).
