2. Description of instrument
ERKA. aneroids work according to the auscultatory measuring method Riva
Rocci / Korotkoff.
The necessary pressure in the cuff is created by the inflation bulb. The cuff is
inflated by a few pumpings. The air release valve is sensitively adjustable and
ensures a controlled pressure reduction during the measuring.
The reading scale has a measuring range from 0 - 300 mmHg with a graduation
of 2 mmHg. The measuring accuracy over the total measuring range is
± 3 mmHg.
After calibration and a 100 % final control each manometer is sealed against
unauthorised opening.
3. Preparations for measuring
Important ! Use the correct cuff-size !
As standard the instrument is supplied with an adult cuff size 13 x 55 cm. This
cuff is suitable for upper arms with a circumference of 29 - 40 cm. For a larger or
smaller circumference the corresponding special sized cuffs should be used.
(Please see chapter 5.)
Fixing the cuff ( general hint )
The cuff must be completely vented before being fixed. It should be tightly fixed
to the left upper arm approx. 2 cm above the elbow joint. The center mark ( black
triangle on the cuff ) must lie on the position of the arteria brachialis.
The arm should be positioned so that the upper part of the cuff is level with the
aorta valve.
Fixing the cuff of home-care instruments ( special hint )
The inflator tubes must point towards the hand. The microphone part of the
stethoscope which is integrated in the cuff must be placed on the arteria. The
free end of the cuff must be drawn through the metal bow and afterwards be
closed by pressing it onto the velcro closure. After that the stethoscope has to be
connected to the microphone part. With this model it is the microphone part and
not the center mark which is placed on the arteria brachialis !
