Video CD/CD-G/CD Player
There is no picture.
Check that the player is connected
securely.
Make sure you operate the TV
correctly.
Make sure you set the SYSTEM
SELECT correctly, according to
your TV (color) system.
Press FUNCTION repeatedly until
"CD" is displayed.
The disc tray does not close.
The CD is not placed correctly.
The CD will not play.
The CD is dirty.
The CD is inserted label side down.
The player is in pause mode.
Moisture condensation has built
up.
Leave the system turned on for
about an hour until the moisture
evaporates.
"CD NO DISC" is displayed.
There is no CD in the player.
Play does not start from the first
track.
The player is in program or shuffle
mode. Press PLAY MODE so that
"PROGRAM" or "SHUFFLE" goes
out.

the jog dial counterclockwise (or

Microphone Mixing/
Karaoke
No microphone sound.
Turn VOLUME or MIC LEVEL to
adjust the microphone volume.
Make sure that the microphone is
set to ON.
You hear acoustic feedback when
using the microphone.
Turn MIC LEVEL to MIN.
Move the microphone away from
the speakers or change the direction
of the microphone.
Timer
The timer cannot be set.
The clock has not been set.
"SET TIMER" flashes when you press
t SELECT after pressing TIMER.
None of the timer functions have
been set. Set one of the timers
before selecting.
General
The indicators and display start
flashing as soon as you plug in the
power cord even though you haven't
turned on the power (demonstration
mode).
Press DISPLAY/DEMO.
The demonstration mode appears
automatically the first time you
plug in the power cord, or if there
is a power outage lasting longer
than half a day.
Redo the following:
•Setting the Clock (p. 7)
•Presetting radio stations (p. 18)
•Setting the Timer (p. 29, 30)
There is no sound.
Rotate VOLUME clockwise.
The headphones are connected.
Disconnect them.
Sound comes from one channel or
unbalanced left and right volume.
Check the speaker connections of
the inoperative channel.
The left and right sound is reversed.
Check the speaker connection and
speaker placement.
Bass is lacking or the location of the
musical instruments seems
imprecise.
Check the speaker connection for
proper phasing.
Bass is distorted when you connect
an optional super woofer.
Press DBFB so that the DBFB
indicator goes out, and adjust the
super woofer volume.
The sound from an optional super
woofer (Sony SA-W10G, etc.) is
distorted.
Set DBFB off.
Adjust the sound of a super
woofer.
There is severe hum or noise.
A TV or VCR is too close to the
stereo system. Move the stereo
system away from the TV or VCR.
Demo mode appears in the display
after deactivating the demo mode.
When a power interruption occurs
for longer than half a day. Set the
music clips, timer settings and
tuner presets again.
"12:00 AM" flashes in the display.
A power interruption occurred. Set
the clock again.
The remote does not function.
The batteries have run down.
Replace both batteries.
There is an obstacle between the
remote and the system. Remove the
obstacle.
Restoring the Factory
Settings
If you cannot solve the problems after you
have made the checks above, do the
following operation.
(A micro-computer controls all of this
system operations. Some troubles may
occur because of electrical noises from the
AC power.)
1 Turn POWER off.
2 Hold down DISPLAY/DEMO,
TUNER/BAND and MENU 3 at the
same time.
The micro-computer is reset and the clock
setting, timer setting, and radio station
presets are restored to the factory settings.
Redo the settings according to your needs.
