Disengaging the Chain Brake
Pull the hand guard towards the
N
front handle until there is an audible
click – the chain brake is
disengaged.
Fitting the Chain
WARNING
Wear work gloves to protect your hands
from the sharp cutters.
Fit the chain – start at the bar nose.

Turn the guide bar so that the chain
N
is positioned as shown in the
pictogram (1) – the arrows show the
chain's direction of rotation.
Fit the guide bar over the studs (2)
N
and engage the tensioner slide in
the hole (3) – place the chain over
the sprocket (4) at the same time.

Turn the tensioning screw (5)
N
clockwise until there is very little
chain sag on the underside of the
bar – and the drive link tangs are
engaged in the bar groove.
Refit the sprocket cover and tighten
N
the nut only moderately by hand –
finally tighten the nut only after

tensioning the saw chain.

Re-tensioning during cutting work:
Disconnect the plug from the wall
N
outlet.
Loosen the nut.
N
Hold the bar nose up.
N
Use a screwdriver to turn the
N
tensioning screw (1) clockwise until
the chain fits snugly against the
underside of the bar.
While still holding the bar nose up,
N
tighten down the nut firmly.
Go to "Checking Chain Tension".
N
A new chain has to be retensioned more
often than one that has been in use for
some time.
Check chain tension frequently –
N
