USAGE
Always check the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield assembly components before use. Manually adjust the
shield mounting mechanism (adaptors) to ensure knobs are firmly in place, do not over tighten or the shield won't be able to
operate correctly.
• Inspect adaptors for cracks or damage, ensure adaptors are locked into the accessory slots.
• Check EVO
helmet accessory slots and inspect for cracks that could allow the adaptor to slip out.
®
• Ensure the nuts and bolts fastening a lower chinguard (double crown) are tight before use.
• Always hold faceshield using the chinguard, never hold or operate the shield by using the side shield extenders.
Despite of the fact that the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield can be fixed in two positions, while working at live
parts or in the vicinity of live parts (live working), the intended protection can only be provided when the shield is securely
fixed and in the lower position.
The best protection is achieved with an EVO
Range industrial safety helmet, allowing a very close position of the shield to
®
the face. Nevertheless, make sure that your nose or other parts of your head and face are kept clear from the inner shield
surface. For 360° protection add a hood or balaclava. The operating temperature shall be between -10°C and 45°C.
The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield is Arc Protection Class 2 and VLT Class 2 product as per GS-ET-29. It
exceeds by far the specification of the highest arc flash protection class according to GS-ET-29. For a light transmittance of
VLT class 2 as per GS-ET-29 additional illumination is required to achieve a minimum illumination level of 30 lux behind the
visor. Please check the illumination level behind the visor before starting to use it.
NOTE: Due to diverse workplace conditions check necessity for additional lighting when wearing the shield. Artificial
illumination, especially illumination coming from fluorescent or LED lamps together with the tinting of the shield may affect
your colour recognition capabilities. To make sure that you can sufficiently recognize colours we recommend carrying out
the following procedure at your workplace under the local illumination conditions:
1. Collect pieces of cables with the same cables coding used at your workplace;
2. Make sure, that you are in a safe area with an illumination (type and intensity) as at your workplace;
3. Clean your eye protector and inspect it for damages (do not hesitate to replace the eye protector, if necessary);
4. Put the eye protector on as per user instructions;
5. Quickly sort the cable pieces.
In case you are encountering some coding differentiation problems or a check of the sorting result shows sorting failures,
the illumination is insufficient. In this case the work may cause an accident, such as an arc flash.
NOTE: The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield is designed to protect eyes and face against the mechanical and
thermal hazards of an arc flash. However, it does not substitute prescription glasses, other eye and face PPE, respirator
masks or further PPE required for sufficient protection as per the hazard and risk analysis and particular work safety
regulations at a particular workplace. Ensure that the used PPE is compatible with each other.
NOTE: Due to national safety rules and policies in some countries or companies the usage of safety glasses underneath the visor is
advised and may be mandatory.
NOTE: An arc flash / electrical fault arc of high incident energy may cause permanent impairment of sight or other serious
personal injury. PPE should be considered as the last barrier if everything else fails. Consider higher protective equipment
to gain extra safety buffers in case a real accident generates more energy than originally calculated in the hazard and risk
assessment. However, there should be no live working under conditions which cannot be protected by Arc Protection Class
2 products. The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield described in this document is a Class 2 product.

CLEANING
Clean and inspect the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield after and prior to each use. Clean the AFP-25 Helmet
Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield using mild soap and warm water. For drying use a clean, soft (microfibre) lint-free cloth.
If necessary, for cleaning and inspection, disassemble the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield from the helmet
clip. Make sure that before usage all components are correctly re-assembled.
STORING
For best results store the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield in the protective box provided with the item.
(NOTE: Various other packing materials may contain solvents which may decrease the level of protection.) Store the AFP-
25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield out of sunlight in a clean and dry environment. The storage temperature shall be
between -10°C and 45°C. Do not expose the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield to any arc welding operation.
MAINTENANCE, REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT
If the visor does not remain in the stowed position, re-tighten the wing nuts at the sides. The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc
Flash Faceshield (including the permanently attached chin protector) must be replaced if:
• it is scratched or damaged
• it has been exposed to an arc flash
• it has been exposed to chemicals, oils or lubricants *
• it is damaged by mechanical impact *
• it has reached its normal life span (see Inspection Criteria and Determination of End of Useful Life section)
• it has been exposed to high heat or over exposed to sun light *
• it has been exposed to fire for long periods of time *
* ATTENTION: Damages caused by the afore mentioned incidents may not be visible to the end user.
INSPECTION CRITERIA AND DETERMINATION OF END OF USEFUL LIFE
Inspect and replace any damaged or worn components. Never re-use the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield, if it has
been in an arc flash incident or if any replacement criteria delineated above is fulfilled. Despite of the fact that the AFP-25 EVO
Range Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield is made from high quality materials and by leading manufacturing processes,
the product suffers from UV radiation, contact with oil and lubricants, scratches and mechanical impacts like all plastic products.
Therefore, JSP recommends replacing the shield 5 years after manufacture.
