The instruction manual for this device consists of general and specific instructions,
both must be carefully read and understood before use. Attention! This leaflet
shows the specific instruction only.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS EN 353-2.
This note contains the necessary information for a correct use of the following
product/s: Skt Lifeline.
1) FIELD OF APPLICATION.
This product is a personal protective device (P.P.E.) against falls from height; it is
compliant with the Regulation (EU) 2016/425. EN 353-2:2002. Guided type
fall arresters including a flexible anchor line. Attention! For this product the indica-
tions of the standard EN 365 must be respected (general instructions / paragraph
2.5). Attention! For this product a periodic thorough inspection is compulsory
(general instructions / paragraph 8.)
2) NOTIFIED BODIES. Refer to the legend in the general instructions (paragraph
9 / table D): M6; N1.
3) NOMENCLATURE (Fig. 3). A) Fall arrester. B) Body. C) Locking cam. D) Sling
(length: 20 cm). E) EN 362 connector. F) Rope. G) Connection loop. H) Label.
3.1 - Main materials. Refer to the legend in the general instructions (paragraph
2.4): 2 (body); 3 (connector, locking cam); 7 (rope, sling).
4) MARKING.
Numbers/letters without caption: refer to the legend in the general instructions
(paragraph 5).
4.1 - General (Fig. 3). Indications: 2; 4; 6; 7; 8; 11; 12; 19; 30) Diameter and
type of the rope included. 31) Rope length.
4.2 - Traceability (Fig. 3). Indications: T1; T3; T8; T9.
5) COMPATIBILITY.
Skt Lifeline equipment, composed of rope, fall arrester and sling, constitutes a
complete system and its components cannot be changed (Fig. 1).
5.1 - Harness. The equipment must be connected exclusively to the EN 361
attachment point of the harness (preferably on the front) using the connector that
comes with the equipment or any other connector equipped with a locking gate
and bearing a maximum length of 110 mm. Caution! No other connecting ele-
ment must be used between the connector and the harness.
5.2 - Anchor points. For the installation of the rope only anchor points that comply
with the EN 795 standard can be used (minimum strength 12 kN or 18 kN for
non-metallic anchors) that do not have sharp edges.
5.3 - Ropes. The equipment comes with the following rope model: GeoTwist
Polyamide 14 mm 3-strand twisted.
5.4 - Connectors. To connect the rope to the anchor point, only use a EN 362
connector equipped with a locking gate and inserted in the connection loop of
the rope (Fig. 2).
6) INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
6.1 - Installation. Before installing the rope make sure that the anchor point is
located above the user, and that the angle it makes with the vertical measures
no more than 30°. While installing the rope, make sure the system has been
positioned in the correct direction: the arrow that is visible on the body of the fall
arrester must be pointing upwards (Fig. 4.1). Danger of death! The fall arrester
works in one direction only. If assembled in the wrong/opposite direction, it con-
stitutes a fatal danger (Fig. 4.4).
6.2 - Function testing. Slide the fall arrester upwards, pulling it by the connector
to check that it runs freely (Fig. 4.2). Then rapidly pull it downwards and check
that the fall arrester immediately locks onto the rope (Fig. 4.3). Attention! The
connector may be coupled to the harness only after the above steps have been
meticulously performed.
6.3 - Use. The fall arrester allows for safe and hands free climbing on vertical
structures. If the user falls, the device will instantly lock on the rope (Fig. 4.3).
6.4 - Warnings. 1) During the progression, the fall arrester slides freely both up-
wards and downwards: do not hold and/or move the fall arrester along the rope
using your hands (Fig. 4.5). 2) While in use: the user must always be positioned
below the anchor point, at an angle with the vertical that measures no more than
30° (Fig. 8); make sure that the rope stays taut at all times to minimize a possible
fall; also, avoid any rope slack between the anchor point and the user.
6.5 - Fall clearance distance (Fig. 6). The fall clearance distance is the minimum
distance needed under the feet of the operator in order to avoid the collision with
the structure, the ground, or other obstacles, in case of a fall from a height. At-
tention! Should the user be below the indicated fall clearance distance height, it
might happen that he's not protected from falls: therefore it is suggested to adopt
supplementary measures during the climbing or the descent. Attention! It must be
added to the fall clearance distance calculation the elasticity of the rope, which
can vary depending on the conditions of use.
7) SYMBOLS. Refer to the legend in the general instructions (paragraph 15): F1;
F2; F9.
