INSTALLATION AND WIRING
For ease of installation, manufacturer recommends use of a deep wall
box.
1. Prior to installation:
Set fan pull chain to its highest speed (be sure fan is operating at
full speed before disconnecting power).
2. Prepare the switch box.
After the power is turned OFF at the circuit breaker box, remove the
existing wall plate and mounting screws. Pull the old switch out from
the wall box.
3. Identify the type of circuit.
You may connect the TDFC-1A to a single pole circuit. If you are
unable to clearly identify some or all of the wires mentioned in this
manual, you should consult with a qualified electrician.
Caution – For your safety: Connecting a proper ground wire to the fan
speed control provides protection against electrical shock in the event of
certain fault conditions. If a proper ground is not available, consult with a
qualified electrician before continuing installation.
4. Prepare the Wires.
Tag the wires currently connected to the existing switch so that
they can be identified later. Disconnect the wires. Make sure the
insulation is stripped off of the wires to expose their copper cores to
the length indicated by the "Strip Gage" (approx. ½ inch).
5. Wire the fan speed control.
Single Pole Circuit: Wiring One TDFC-1A (Fig. 4)
• Connect the green or non-insulated (copper) GROUND wire from
the circuit to the green wire on the fan speed control.
• Connect the power wire from the circuit (HOT) to the black wire
on the fan speed control.
• Connect the neutral wire to the white wire on the fan speed
control.
• Connect the ceiling fan power (load) to the red wire on the fan
speed control.
• The yellow wire is not used on a single pole circuit.
When fan maintenance is required, use the Air Gap Isolation feature for safety. This feature is only available at the fan
speed control which can be identified by the 4 speed buttons.
To activate the feature from the dimmer:
• Press
firmly so that the paddle clicks and latches in. Make sure all LEDs are extinguished, indicating that it is
safe to relamp.
• To release and return to normal operation, press
After a power failure, all devices automatically return to the state they were in immediately prior to loss of power.
I turned the load on (by tapping the top of the paddle), but the fan did not turn on, or turned off by itself after a
brief time, and the Load Status LED and Load Level LEDs are alternating dim/bright at 1Hz.
The fan controller has detected an overload condition (a load larger than the fan controller's rated load capacity, including possibly a
short-circuit) and has turned off the load output. Tap the bottom of the paddle to turn the fan controller off and cancel this error, then use
the air gap switch to open the load circuit and check /correct the wiring error.
