1.) Remove the Fascia
a.) Using an 8mm socket, remove (1) screw from the lower rear side of the wheel well, both sides.
b.) Using a drill and a 3/16" drill bit, remove (2) rivets (for Durango) or (4) rivets (for Grand Cherokee) above the screw previously removed on each side of the vehicle.
c.) Using a 10 mm socket, remove the uppermost screw on each side of the vehicle and two bolts located near the spare tire holding the fascia to the bumper beam
d.) Pull the wheel well cover slightly outward. Once moved, use a 7mm socket to remove (1) screw located under the cover from each side of the vehicle.
e.) Using a T30 torx bit, remove (2) screws located near the brake lights, underneath the fifth door.
f.) (Durango only) Remove the fascia and trim according to Figure 2. Note: be sure to keep the lower part of the fascia connected, only trim along the red line.
2.) (Durango only) Lower the exhaust: Using exhaust removal pliers to detach the (2) exhaust hangers on each side of the vehicle. Note: make sure that the exhaust system
is supported prior to lowering the exhaust. Note: use of spray lubricant may be useful in removing exhaust hangers.
3.) (Durango only) Lower the spare tire by consulting your owner's manual.
4.) Remove bumper beam: Using a 21mm socket, remove (3) bolts (for Durango) or (4) bolts (for Grand Cherokee) from bumper beam, per side. Return bumper beam and bolts to owner.
5.) Install hitch: Raise the hitch into position, slide it into frame rails, and align with attachment holes. Using pull wire, feed the carriage bolt and spacer into frame rails and bracket holes
from end panel opening. Remove pull wires and loosely install conical washer and hex nut to hitch, see Figure 1.
6.) Tighten all 1/2-13 Gr5 fasteners with torque wrench to 75 Lb.-Ft. (102 N*M)
7.) Remove fascia door prior to reinstalling fascia. Reinstall hardware & fascia removed in steps 1-3. Use rivets provided to reinstall fascia. Secure the fascia by attaching it to hitch
center section with cable tie.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced.
Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York,
