INTENDED USE
™
These Sensi-Disc
self-tamping dispensers accommodate either 6 or 8 cartridges of Sensi-Disc susceptibility test discs or Taxo
differentiation discs. They are used to deliver discs onto 100 mm-style Petri dishes when performing disc susceptibility testing or for the
presumptive identification of gram-negative anaerobic bacilli.
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
Discs are dispensed and tamped onto the agar surface by depressing the dispensing knob on the top of the dispenser.
The step adjusting ring is used to control the height of the dispenser base above the agar surface.
Each dispenser is provided complete with a storage case to protect the unit from moisture when not in use.
OPERATING PROCEDURES
These dispensers are carefully manufactured and thoroughly tested. Trouble-free performance is assured by understanding and practicing
the correct operating procedures.
1. Remove the dispenser from the refrigerator and allow to reach room temperature.
2. Remove the dispenser from the storage case and place on the work surface.
3. Pull out the small black knob located on the side of the dispenser showing the B-D™ name to the furthest point (about 1/2"), and slide
the knob down so it locks in place.
4. Insert cartridges.
5. Release the black knob so that it returns to the original position to lock cartridges in the dispenser.
6. Place the dispenser over the 100 mm plate.
7. Push down the main dispensing knob to the bottom of the stroke.
8. Allow the dispensing knob to return to the original position.
9. Discs are then simultaneously dispensed and pressed onto medium surface.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
The dispenser must always complete a full cycle before it can be operated again. If a full cycle was not completed, of if the dispenser has
resistance greater than normally encountered in depressing the knob, STOP and immediately begin the Clearing Procedure.
CLEARING PROCEDURE
1. Pull out the small black knob located on the side of the dispenser to the furthest point and slide the knob down so that it locks in place.
2. Remove all cartridges.
3. Lift the dispenser and place over an empty Petri dish.
4. Cycle the dispenser several times as described in steps 6 through 8, under "Operating Procedures".
5. Replace cartridges.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
For in vitro Diagnostic Use.
Observe aseptic techniques and established precautions against microbiological hazards throughout all procedures.
CARTRIDGES
The last disc in each cartridge is marked with an "X". A plastic slug has been incorporated in each cartridge after the "X" -marked disc. This
prevents the dispenser from operating when an empty cartridge is in place. Watch for the appearance of discs marked "X" and immediately
replace all cartridges.
When inserting cartridges in the dispenser, make certain that the first disc is centered in the end of the cartridge.
CLEANING AND DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURE
Each time cartridges are changed, or if a tamper becomes contaminated by touching the inoculated agar surface, clean and decontaminate
the tamper(s) by the following procedure:
1. Remove all cartridges from the dispenser.
2. Fill one empty 100 mm-style Petri dish with 20-25 mL of a 3% solution of Lysol
