Intended Purpose
Levamed stabili-tri is an ankle brace for mobilisation in a defined position
with parts that can be removed.
Indications
All indications which require stabilisation or limitation of the range of
motion of the ankle with subsequent functional mobilisation of the
injured or impaired structures, such as:
• Ankle sprains (grade II to III)
• Chronic instability of the upper ankle and lower ankle
• Post-operative care following an operation on the ligamentous
apparatus of the ankle
Contraindications
None known at present.
Risks / Side Effects
If the aids are too tight, this can cause pressure sores or constriction of
blood vessels or nerves. Consult your doctor before using this device if you
have the following conditions:
• A condition affecting the application area
• Paraesthesia, circulatory disorders
• Lymph drainage disorders
Tightly fitting aids can cause skin irritation (pressure, sweat, material).
Intended patient groups
Healthcare professionals should provide care to the adults and children,
applying the available information on the measurements/sizes and
necessary functions/indications and in line with the information provided
by the manufacturer, and acting under their own responsibility.
1. Phase – acute phase (inflammation phase)
Immobilisation of the foot is absolutely necessary in order to counteract
inflammations and marked swellings on the ankle occurring immediately
after the injury. Fully equipped with stabilising element and strap system,
this orthesis provides maximum support for relief and thus supports the
reduction of swelling and pain.
2. Phase – repair phase (proliferation phase)
The mobilisation of the foot can be gradually increased, improving the
muscular stabilisation of the ankle joint and assisting further reduction of
swelling in the affected structures. By removing the stabilising elements,
the ankle joint is given more freedom, permitting controlled movement.
The combination of the stiff tongue and webbing continues to provide
necessary support. In order not to re-injure structures that have healed
during the day, it is however recommended to continue using the stiff
element at night as well.
