3.2 Before each ride.
Your bike has been reviewed repeatedly during its manufacture and
later, in a final check at your BMW dealer. Given that the operation of
the bike may change during transportation or it is possible that third
parties may have modified your bike during the waiting time, you
should check the following before each ride:
1. Are the quick-releases or bolts of the front and rear wheels, the
seatpost and other parts well fastened?
2. Are the tyres in good conditions and is the pressure sufficient in
both? Check the tyre pressure with your fingers.
You will find more information in the section called «Tyres».
3. Let the wheels turn freely to check the spinning. Also check the
space between the frame and the rim or the tyre in wheels with a
disc brake. A defective spin may be shown when the wheel is off
to one side, the hubs are broken or the spokes are damaged.
You will find more information in the section called «Tyres».
4. Test the brakes when you are stopped, by squeezing the hand
brake. The handbrake should not cross the handlebar! The brake
fluid should not leak. Also check the solidity of the lining.
You will find more information in the section called «Brake
System».
5. Make your bike do a small jump above the ground. Check if it
rattles. If necessary, check the bearings and the joints with nuts.
6. If you want to ride on the road, you should equip your bike
according to the legal provisions of the corresponding country.
In any case, riding without lights or reflectors when visibility is
scarce or in the dark is very dangerous. The rest of the roadway
users will not see you or will notice your presence too late. When
you ride on the road, you will always need an authorized lighting
device. When darkness falls, turn on the light.
Do not ride your bike if it does not comply with one of these
points! A defective bike may cause severe accidents! If you
are not completely sure or have a question, contact your
BMW dealer!
Regularly check your bicycle in search of signs of wear,
scratches, kinks, worn colors or the start of cracking. Parts
whose useful life has been exceeded may suddenly fail.
Regularly bring your bicycle to a BMW dealer in order to
change the parts in question, if necessary.
3.3 Normal maintenance.
Your bike requires regular maintenance, in addition to a minimum
number of periodic reviews. The periodicity of the maintenance
measures depends on the type of vehicle (cruise bike, race bike,
mountain bike), in addition to the frequency and the conditions of
use.
Take a look at the Maintenance and Repair Calendar on page 44 of
this manual.
Warning: We recommend that your distributor perform these
processes. The periodicity information only takes into
consideration the values indicated in conditions of normal use.
In the case of mountain bikes, the intervals are reduced due to
intensive use.
3.4 Adjustment of the bike seat.
Configuring the seat height: This distance is calculated by measuring
the inside length of your leg, including the foot, which will mount the
bike. The length obtained in multiplied by a coefficient of 0.885.
