STARTING & OPERATION
Jet starter
If starting the engine is difficult because of cold ambient
temperature, use the jet starter.
1. Turn the JET STARTER COCK ( , [Figure 2]) counter-
clockwise to open.
2. Push the STARTER KNOB ( , [Figure 2]) 4 or 5 times.
3. Close the cock completely.
4. Pull the decompression lever, turn on the starter switch,
then set the lever free after the engine rotates.
Figure 2
Starting Engine
1. Position the FORWARD/REVERSE LEVER ( , [Figure 3])
to "NEUTRAL" position.
2. Position the VIBRATION LEVER ( , [Figure 3]) to "OFF"
position.
3. Position the THROTTLE LEVER ( , [Figure 3]) to 1/2
position.
4. Turn the starter-key clockwise to the "PRE-HEAT" position.
5. Wait about 5 seconds.
6. Turn the starter-key clockwise to the "START" position.
7. Release the starter-key as soon as the engine starts
running.
8. Shift the THROTTLE LEVER ( , [Figure 3]) to the "LOW"
position immediately after the engine starts.
9. Warm up the engine for about 5 minutes.
Note: When first starting the engine is still cold and lubricating
oil is not circulated sufficiently, allow the engine to operate
without load for about 5 minutes before running with full
power.
Figure 3
Operation
1. Make sure the parking brake lever is positioned in
"UNLOCK".
2. Shift the throttle lever to "HIGH" position.
3. Grab the handle with two hands, forcing the safety switch
bar down. The walk-behind duplex roller can now be moved
forward, reverse, and stopped by the forward/reverse lever.
4. To vibrate the roller, shift the vibration lever to "ON" position.
5. Turning left or right is done by pivoting the rollers by means
of the handle used as a lever. It is easier to turn while the
unit is rolling and furthermore when it is vibrating.
6. When compacting hot asphalt, open the water sprinklers in
order to prevent the asphalt from sticking to the drums.
Control the water tank level from time to time.
7. Circulate the vibrating duplex roller in a systematic way all
over the surface to be compacted. 3 to 5 passes might be
necessary to obtain the required compaction level.
When operating the duplex roller, be observant at all times
of the people and the obstructions within the work area.
