[EN] Druck PTX 661 "Hammer Union" transmitter assemblies
ATEX / IECEx intrinsically safe, type PTX Ex-0129: Requirements in hazardous areas
The data that follows is only applicable to equipment with
the specified marking details.
The equipment for use in potentially explosive
atmospheres complies with the ATEX directive 94/9/EC
and/or the IEC Certification Scheme for Explosive
Atmospheres (IECEx).
Before you install and use the equipment, make sure that
you read and understand all the related data. This
includes: all local safety procedures and installation
standards (for example: IEC/EN 60079-14), this document,
and the product datasheet or specification drawing (if
applicable).
To install and use the equipment in potentially explosive
atmospheres ("hazardous areas"), use only approved
engineers who have the necessary skills and qualifications.
WARNING: Do not use tools on the transmitter that
might cause incendive sparks - this can cause an
explosion.
WARNING: Do not connect an energised electrical
circuit in a hazardous area while explosive atmospheres
are present - this can cause an explosion. Isolate the
power supply to the equipment first.
Description
The PTX 661 "Hammer Union" transmitter assemblies are
rigid housings that contain a PTX 721-8518 pressure
transmitter.

Notes (†):
(† 1) Name and address of the manufacturer
(† 2) Approved type (PTX Ex-0129/D Al )
/D : 'No cable' variant (Refer to table A3).
Al : The equipment enclosure contains aluminium.
Refer to "Special conditions for safe use".
(† 3) Hazardous location markings
(† 4) ATEX certification markings and/or
(† 5) IECEx certification markings
(† 6) Product identifier (PTX 661-aaaa)
aaaa:
Specification drawing number (if
applicable)
The PTX 661 assembly and the PTX 721-8518 transmitter
have the type marking "PTX Ex-0129/D".
On the original items, the marking details on the PTX 661
assembly and the PTX 721-8518 are the same. If you
replace the PTX 721-8518, the new PTX 721-8518 will have
a different serial number. The type marking on the PTX 661
assembly can also include the suffix "Al". Make sure that all
the other markings are the same.

Transmitter materials
The materials used for the primary enclosure and pressure
bearing surfaces are identified in the product datasheet or
on the specification drawing (if applicable). Make sure the
materials are applicable for the installation.
Installation
If attached, remove the optional handle from the
assembly.
External temperature limits
The permitted ambient temperature range for the
equipment is -40°C to +80°C. Make sure the process media
also stays within these limits.
Position
Attach the equipment in a safe configuration that prevents
unwanted stress (vibration, physical impact, shock,
mechanical and thermal stresses). Do not install the
equipment where it can be damaged by a material that
causes corrosion. Provide additional protection for
equipment that may be damaged in service.
Ingress protection
As specified by the certification, the enclosure has a
minimum ingress protection (IP) rating of IP20 when
correctly installed.
Note: The enclosure can have a higher IP rating - Refer to
the datasheet or the specification drawing (if applicable).
The electrical connectors and wiring must have a
minimum IP rating of IP20 when correctly installed.
Electrical connections
Refer to document KA233. The power supply must be from
an intrinsically safe (IS) supply or from an IS diode safety
barrier. Table A3 gives the maximum input values. The
total power to the signal/supply connections must not be
more than 1.0 W.
Connect the earth / ground connections that are
applicable to the installation. If applicable, make sure the
cable screen is isolated from the transmitter.
The equipment is resistant to an AC test voltage of
500 V RMS as specified in IEC/EN 60079-11.
Maintenance
Clean the case with a moist, lint-free cloth and a weak
detergent.
Repair and replacement
WARNING: Do not replace the PTX 721-8518 in a
hazardous area while explosive atmospheres are
present - this can cause an explosion.
Do not do local repairs. Return the equipment to the
manufacturer or an approved service agent. To replace
the PTX 721-8518, refer to document KA234. Refer also to
"Marking details".
