1. Unbolt the tailgate, supports, strikers
and fasteners (FIG. 9-1).
2. Disconnect all electrical wiring con-
nections to the rear bumper (FIG. 9-1).
Then, cover and secure ends of discon-
nected wiring, to truck frame.
3. Grind surface welds from bumper align-
ment pin and bracket on outer side
of LH and RH truck frame (FIG. 9-2).
Punch both pins out of bracket.
4. Support rear bumper (FIG. 9-1) and
trailer hitch (if equipped) before unbolt-
ing the hitch and bumper brackets.
5. Unbolt and remove 6 mounting bolts
from hitch and bumper bracket on
LH side of truck (FIG. 9-2). Repeat
for RH side.
NOTE: When liftgate is installed
on the truck the tailgate,
trailer hitch (if equipped),
rear bumper, and bum-
per brackets cannot be
reinstalled.
6. Remove bumper and trailer
hitch (FIG. 9-2).
