Brake shoe adjustment
1 .......Adjusting nut
2 .......Axle brake shoe
3 .......Brake cable
Brake shoe adjustment re-establishes the brake lining-to-
drum clearance and compensates for lining wear.
Adjustment can only be done with the towing eye in its
pulled-out position.
– Jack up the first axle until a wheel clears the floor. Support
the generator on wooden blocks.
– Disconnect the brake cables.
– While turning the wheel in the sense of forward towing, turn
brake adjusting nut clockwise until the brake shoes block
the drum. Then loosen the nut, with the wheel again
turning in the same direction, until the drum rotates freely
or with a light friction. Repeat for the other wheel.
– Repeat for the other axle.
– Adjust the brake cables and rod as described below.
Brake cable and rod adjustment
– Reconnect the brake cables.
– Make sure that the main equalizer stays perpendicular to
the brake rod and that there is no slack in the brake rod.
Adjust with the turnbuckle when necessary.
– With the towing eye pulled out and the hand brake lever in
the downward position, adjust the brake cable of the first
axle. Turn the adjusting nut and brake cable nuts
clockwise until there is no slack in the brake mechanism.
The equalizer must remain perpendicular to the main
brake cable. Repeat for the other axle.
– Apply the hand brake lever several times and repeat the
adjustment. Tighten the nuts with their lock nuts. Remove
the jack and the blocks.
– Road test the generator and brake several times. Then
repeat the first and the third step of "Brake shoe
adjustment".
