6. VOLTAGE AND OUTPUT FREQUENCY ON THE THREE PHASE ALTERNATORS
These alternators are designed to supply the following voltage:
⇒ 400 V at 50Hz or 480 V at 60Hz with star/neutral connection
⇒ 230 V at 50Hz or 276 V at 60Hz with delta connection
7. SINGLE PHASE DUTY OF THREE-PHASE ALTERNATORS
The output power in single-phase, continuous duty is approximately 65% of three-phase output power if
line-to-line voltage is used and 60% if phase voltage is used (star connection).
8. HVR-10KE.0 8. CALIBRATION OF VOLTAGE AND ROTATION SPEED
The calibration must be carried out exclusively by qualified personnel as there is a danger of electric
shock.
The check and/or calibration of the output voltage must be performed at the rated rotation speed (3000 rpm/1'- 50Hz or
3600 rpm/1'- 60Hz). To do this, use the electronic regulator VG voltage trimmer, remembering that the output voltage
increases clockwise.
Attention! For correct operation of the alternator, do not deviate with the voltage of ± 5% with respect
to the value shown on the plate.
9. VOLTAGE REGULATOR
The voltage regulator is calibrated during the final testing phase to have the rated output voltage. As detailed above, the
VG trimmer acts on the output voltage value.
Protection against low speed operation
Protection from low frequency operation is already included in the regulator to trigger by decreasing the generator's output
voltage when the frequency drops below 45Hz with nominal 50Hz nor below 54Hz with nominal 60Hz.

Overload protection is designed to protect the alternator rotor from excessively high load or highly inductive load conditions.
The protection limits the voltage value across the rotor; the value to which this voltage is limited is factory-calibrated and
increases by turning the OL trimmer counterclockwise in the HVR-10KE regulator.

Operation in particular conditions
If the alternator is going to be used in a canopy, make sure that only fresh air blows into it.
103
5,1
This can be ensured by placing the alternator's air inlet near the external air intake. Moreover, remember that the required air

flow is (at 50 Hz):

BEARINGS
130
5,4
The bearings ofE1S-KE type alternators are greased for life and therefore they do not require maintenances for at least 30000
working hours. When a genset general servicing is necessary it is recommended to wash the bearings with a proper solvent.

SLIP-RINGS, BRUSH HOLDER AND BRUSHES
Slip-ring, brush holder-assembly and brushes are designed to guarantee a safe and long service. Therefore, when using the
alternator, no special servicing is needed for at least 2000 working hours for the 2 pole-alternators.
In case you notice an unusual working, a sudden disexcitation of the alternator and an irregular electric current supply, it is
necessary to carry out the following simple operations:
1) Check if the slip ring, brush-holder assembly and brushes are clean and if they are correctly positioned.
2) Verify that brushes rest within the surface of the slip ring.
3) Check brushes wear and eventually replace them if worn.
RECTIFYING DIODE BRIDGE (Figure 8)
We normally use rectifying diodes designed for 25A - 800V.
Rectifying diode bridge inspection
Testing every single diode of the rectifying bridge can be carried out either with an ohmmeter or with a battery and a
bulb, as described here below.
A diode works properly when:
-
the resistance across the diode, measured with an ohmmeter, is very low in the forward direction and very high in the
reverse.
-
with a battery and a suitable bulb, the bulb lights up only in one of the two connections in Figure 9: A=Lamp On,
B=Lamp Off.
Note for disassembling: Before removing the rotor from the frame it is necessary to remove the brush-holder as-
sembly.
