Important information and warnings
A. Caution: Work on brake systems should only be carried
out by a qualified technician equipped with the proper
tools!
B. Before commencing work, please read the instructions
carefully and familiarise yourself with the illustrations.
C. Unless otherwise stated, all bolts or screws must be torqued
according to the torque values listed in the table.
D. It is advisable to secure all bolts or screws with a suitable,
medium-strength locking agent (e.g. Wunderlich order no.
3024523).
E. Please note that references to the right or left side of the
motorcycle always apply as if from the rider's perspective
when facing forwards (unless otherwise stated in the ins-
tructions).
F. For the K 1300 R, original throttle cables must be replaced
with K 1300 S throttle cables where necessary (Wunderlich
order no. 8601329, see instructions on changing the throttle
cable (throttle cable is not included in delivery)).
Assembly instructions
1. After unscrewing the Torx screw, remove the handlebar end
weights (fig. A) and then remove all cable and line clips from
the handlebars to the steering head.
2. Draw out the hydraulic fluid from the brake and clutch re-
servoirs (Caution: brake fluid can cause damage to the paint
finish of your bike; in case of spillage, rinse immediately
with water) and unscrew the hydraulic line fittings (fig. B).
3. Remove both M5 screws (fig. C) from the clamp bracket
and detach the clutch and brake assemblies from the
handlebars.
4. Remove both small Torx screws from the switch housings
(fig. D); remove the switch covers and throttle cover; unhook
the throttle cable (fig. E); unscrew the freeplay adjuster and
remove the throttle cable from the grip housing.

5. Remove the switch unit and loosen the clamping bolt in the
switch assemblies (fig. F); unplug the wire connectors (fig.
G); unscrew the left grip attachment bolts (fig. H, above)
and then detach both grips from the handlebar ends.
6. Remove both Torx screws and, where necessary, the lower
stop screw (fig. I). Pull the handle bars out of the steering
stem assembly.
7. Fit the lower shaft to the steering stem assembly, with the
groove in the spindle facing towards the inside (fig. J). Se-
cure the shaft using the original interior clamping bolt and
tighten to 13 Nm (fig. L).
8. A bracket is bolted into place using the M8x55 screw, and
the outer part is clamped into place using the M6X16 screw
(figs. J + K).
9. Push the handlebars onto the riser brackets.
10. Fit the brake and clutch line adapters to the steering stem
assembly using the M6x35 screws and bushings. Tighten
to 13 Nm (figs. L+N).
11. Using the grips, slide the left and then the right switch
assembly onto the handlebars. Secure them by affixing
the original screws through the through-holes on the
handlebars.
12. Fit the handlebar end weights and screw down the grips
(make sure that the throttle sleeve can rotate freely).
13. Loosely attach the brake and clutch assemblies to the
handlebars. Straighten and align the lever and switch
assemblies and then tighten all fasteners.
14. Loosely fit the original brake and clutch lines to the under-
side of the brake/clutch line adapters, and the new clutch
lines to the top of the adapters, using the new seal rings
and banjo bolts (fig. P). Then attach the new lines to the
handlebar assemblies using the original screws and new
seal rings. To prevent the lines from twisting, screw the
grub screws into the bores at the bottom of the brake/
clutch line adapters on both sides (fig. N) (due to the dif-

15. Re-connect the throttle cable and adjust the throttle
freeplay to 2-3 mm using the adjustment screw (For the
K 1300 R, you may need to replace the throttle cable with
a longer alternative, see point "F").
Completion and safety check
16. Secure all cables and lines to the vehicle using cable clips.
Ensure that none of the lines are pinched, and that they do
not restrict the movement of the steering, or chafe against
any part of the vehicle.
17. The handlebar position can be adjusted by loosening the
clamping bolts. However, a sufficient distance should
be maintained from other vehicle parts, and the steering
should be unobstructed.

When joining parts with
several fasteners, evenly tighten in a cross pattern, in several
stages up to the maximum, so that the parts are joined evenly.
Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, these torque
values are for dry and clean bolts and threads, with all compo-
nents at room temperature.
