Large Capacity Interceptors GI-200, GI-K, &
GI-X Series
Function
Watts GI-200, GI-K, and GX Series large capacity hydro-mechanical grease
interceptors are designed for installation in or adjacent to commercial kitch-
ens.
Sizing
GI-200, GI-K, and GX Series interceptors are sized by flow rate. Standard hy-
dro-mechanical interceptor sizing guidelines can be referenced in Plumbing &
Drainage Institute Standard PDI-G101.
Placement & Installation
Grease interceptors should be installed as close as practical to the fixture(s) being
served. Do not connect garbage grinder waste lines through the grease interceptor,
as the volume of solid matter will dramatically reduce the efficiency and operation of
the interceptor.
Due to space requirements, it may be necessary to install large capacity intercep-
tors outside the primary kitchen area. The interceptor can be installed on the floor
in a basement area below the kitchen or recessed in a minimum 4" concrete slab.
Recessed installation may require an extension to meet the below grade piping (see
Extensions).
GI-200, GI-K and GX Series interceptors are supplied with a stainless steel flow
control plate, located just inside the interceptor inlet. The flow control must be in
place for the interceptor to maintain proper operation and efficiency. Alternatively, an
external flow control fitting may be installed in a horizontal position on the inlet side
of the interceptor, as close as possible to the underside of the lowest fixture served.
For multiple fixture installations, a single flow control should be used.
A vent or flow control air intake connection should be made on the inlet side of the
interceptor and terminated or re-vented a minimum of 6"(152) above the flood rim
of the sink. The interceptor outlet side discharge line should also be vented to retain
a water seal and prevent siphoning.
Pipe connections are either no hub or IPS. Make no hub connections with a suit-
able no hub or transition coupling (by others); IPS connections are made with an
IPS nipple (by others) corresponding to the interceptor's connection size.
