When cold the machine may take a few min-
utes to reach maximum speed. This is due to
its construction and is not serious.
4 Electronics
When processing different surfaces
it is helpful to adjust the sanding
speed to the respective material.
The fi gures on the speed regulator
(1.1) roughly correspond with the
following idling speeds:
1 10 000 strokes/min 4 15 400 strokes/min
2 11 800 strokes/min 5 17 200 strokes/min
3 13 600 strokes/min 6 19 000 strokes/min
5 Dust extraction
In order to draw off the dust produced dur-
ing sanding the hose (Ø 27 mm) of a Festool
dust extractor is attached to the suction
adapter (1.2) at the end of the motor casing.
The sanding dust is then drawn off directly
through the extractor channel in the sand-
ing pad.
When working with wood or if materials are
used which may produce harmful dusts the
electrical tool should be connected to a suit-
able extractor.
6 Sanding pad
The sanding pad is made of MPE foam (micro-
cellular polyurethane elastomer) and has
bevelled edges (2.3). It has a velour fabric on
its top surface and a Stickfi x covering on its
underside. The velour side of the sanding pad
is pressed against the Stickfi x covering of the
sanding base (2.4). The tools's sanding base
has three centring protuberances (2.1) at its
corners enabling easy adjustment.
Please note:
The device has been specially developed for
work in corners and on edges. Experience
has shown that this leads to a more point-
focal load on the tip of the sanding base. The
heat generated is naturally higher than when
working on the whole surface since the same
pressure is applied to a smaller surface. Do
not apply as much pressure since otherwise
the Stickfi x covering of the sanding pad and
the abrasive quickly become damaged. If
the Stickfi x covering on the front tip of the
sanding pad should become worn simply re-
move the sanding pad, rotate around 120°
and replace.
If the Stickfi x covering of the sanding base
should become worn the complete base (Or-
der No. 487 406) can be replaced. Simply
loosen the two screws (2.2 and 2.5).

7 Abrasive
Festool can offer perforated Stick-
fi x abrasives in grain sizes from
P 40 to P 400 for an effective dust
extraction.
Order numbers can be found in the corre-
sponding brochures.
The Stickfi x abrasives are simply pressed
onto the Stickfi x sanding pad and pulled off
after use.
If the front tip of the abrasive has become
worn it can be removed from the sanding pad,
rotated around 120° and replaced.
8 Care and maintenance
Always disconnect the machine at its
mains plug before performing mainte-
nance work!
The vent openings on the motor casing must
always be kept clean and free to ensure a
good circulation of air.
The device is fi tted with self-disconnecting
special brushes. If these become worn the
power is automatically interrupted and the
device comes to a standstill.
Any maintenance and repair work requir-
ing the motor casing to be opened may
only be carried out by an authorised
service workshop.
9 Disposal
Do not throw the power tool in your household
waste! Dispose of the machine, accessories
and packaging at an environmentally-re-
sponsible recycling centre! Observe the valid
national regulations.
EU only: European Directive 2002/96/EC
stipulate that used electric power tools must
be collected separately and disposed of at
an environmentallyresponsible recycling
centre.
10 Warranty
Our equipment is under warranty for at least
12 months with regard to material or pro-
duction faults in accordance with national
legislation. In the EU countries, the warranty
period is 24 months (an invoice or delivery
note is required as proof of purchase). Dam-
age resulting from, in particular, normal wear
and tear, o-verloading, improper handling, or
caused by the user or other damage caused
by not following the operating instructions,
or any fault acknowledged at the time of
purchase, is not covered by the warranty.
Damage caused by the use of non-original
accessories and consumable material (e.g.
sanding pads) is also excluded.
Complaints will only be acknowledged if the
equipment has not been dismantled before
being sent back to the suppliers or to an au-
