Remove and safely discard any packaging materials and promotional labels before you use the
appliance for the first time.

Only connect the appliance to an earthed wall socket.

This appliance can draw up to 1650W from the power supply in your home. Make sure that the
electrical system in your home and the circuit to which the appliance is connected can cope
with this level of power consumption. Do not let too many other appliances draw power from
the same circuit while this appliance is operating.

It is recommended not to use the appliance in combination with an extension cord or power
strip.

Always place the base and the teapot on a dry, flat and stable surface. Do not put them on an
inclined surface, in a sink or on a draining board.

Make sure that the underside of the teapot stays dry when you fill it. Hold the teapot under the
tap before you open the tap.

Do not move the appliance while it is switched on.

Always make sure that the lid is on the teapot and that it is placed in such a way that steam
from the vent hole is directed away from the handle of the teapot and your hand. This prevents
hot steam from scalding your hands when you pour out the hot tea.

This appliance is only intended for heating and boiling water and preparing tea. Do not use it to
heat up other liquids or food.

Do not operate the appliance without water. Never fill the teapot below the MIN indication to
prevent it from boiling dry.

Do not put milk, sugar or honey in the teapot.

Never put tea leaves directly in the teapot. Always use the filter to put the tea leaves in the
teapot

This appliance is intended for normal household use only. It is not intended for use in
environments such as staff kitchens of shops, offices, farms or other work environments. Nor is it
intended to be used by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and other residential
environments.

Do not use the appliance outdoors or in moving vehicles or boats.

Depending on the hardness of the water in your area, small spots may appear in the teapot. This
phenomenon is the result of scale build-up on the inside of the teapot over time. The harder the
water, the faster scale builds up. Scale can occur in different colours. Although scale is harmless,
too much scale can influence the performance of the appliance. Descale the appliance regularly
by following the instructions in chapter 'Descaling'.

The filter has an embedded magnet in its bottom surface. Keep the filter away from bank cards,
credit cards, audio tapes, video tapes, computer monitors, TV screens, sharp metal objects etc.

Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as petrol or acetone
to clean the appliance.

Boil-dry protection

This appliance is equipped with boil-dry protection. The boil-dry protection automatically switches
off the appliance if it is accidentally switched on when there is no water or not enough water in it. If
this happens, the appliance produces an alarm sound and the light ring flashes. Lift the appliance
from its base and fill it with cold tap water to reset boil-dry protection. The appliance is now ready
for use again.

Electromagnetic fields (EMF)

This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF). If handled
properly and according to the instructions in this user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on
scientific evidence available today.
