Notes on the Haematocrit
determination
To obtain reproducible results, standardization is re-
quired both in the interest of patients and blood donors
and to guarantee the comparability of research results.
The DIN 58933 norm describes a practical standard.
The parameters for centrifugation in these notes are
based on the norm.
Remove the Haematocrit-rotor
To remove the Haematocrit-rotor, follow the steps for
installation in reverse order.
Measuring the Haematocrit value
The evaluation occurs after removing the rotor lid.
Reading graph 7600 0938
The reading graph comes with the rotor. To read the
values, remove the capillary tubes one by one from the
Haematocrit-rotor.
Place the bottom end of the capillary tubes on the zero
line with the blood column and the upper end of the
plasma column on the 100% line of the graph. The
dividing line between erythrocytes and plasma indi-
cates the percentage of packed cells. Be careful to
place the capillary tubes at right angles to the zero line.
