Cricoid Cartilage
Ring-shaped hard tissue below the Adam's apple. The cricoid cartilage aligns with the UES in the esophagus
Esophagus
Tube that carries food and liquids from your mouth to your stomach
Laryngopharyngeal Reflux
The condition caused by the stomach contents, including acid, coming up into your throat
Adam's Apple
The lump that sticks out of the front of your neck below your throat
that is formed by the angle of the thyroid
cartilage surrounding the larynx
Upper Esophageal Sphincter (UES)
Ring of muscles at the top of the esophagus intended to prevent regurgitation of stomach contents past the
esophagus
Regurgitation
Involuntary return of partially digested food from the stomach to the mouth
