OPERATING HINTS
AND TIPS

OPERATION AT HIGH ALTITUDE

At high altitude, the standard fuel / air mixture in the carburettor is
too rich, causing a decrease in performance and an increase in fuel
consumption.
Performance at high altitude can be improved by installing a jet with
a smaller diameter in the carburettor and by adjusting the mixture
screw. If you use your motor hoe at an altitude of more than
1 800 metres above sea level, it is recommended to have these
modifications made on your carburettor by your authorized Honda
dealer.
Even when the appropriate modifications have been made to the
carburettor, the power of the engine decreases by 3.5 % for each
300-metre increase in altitude. Altitude will, however, have a greater
effect on power if no modification is made.
CAUTION :
• Once the carburettor has been adjusted for a given altitude, do
not use the motor hoe at a lower altitude as this could result in
overheating of the engine and cause serious damage owing to a
air / fuel mixture that is much too weak.
OPERATION
1. Push the handlebar [1]
slightly down so as to raise
the front of the machine by
between 6 and 8 degrees [2].
2. Before pushing the throttle
lever, press the unlocking
lever [3].
3. Squeeze the throttle lever to
start the tilling implements
rotating [4]. A soon as the
tools operate, release the
unlocking lever while
continuing the tilling. Try to
keep the machine at the
specified angle when
working.

NOTE: If the motor hoe goes forward too fast, put more weight on the
handlebar so as to push the depth bar into the ground and slow down
the motor hoe. Keep applying pressure until you obtain the appropriate
working depth. If the tines go too deep and the motor hoe no longer
moves forward, decrease the downward pressure on the handlebar
and move it from left to right in order to free the motor hoe.
4. To make turns, push firmly down on the handlebar and steer the
motor hoe round the depth bar.
CAUTION :
• If you use the motor hoe on a slope, it may tip over.
• Never use the motor hoe at night.
• Check the motor hoe for any signs of damage or other faults each
time you use it.
• Check the difference between the throttle lever and the locking
lever and remove stones, branches or other items which could
obstruct it.

THROTTLE / CLUTCH LEVER
• After pressing the unlocking lever [5] and pushing the throttle
lever [6], the engine speed increases and the clutch is
automatically engaged. Driving power is then transmitted to the
rotating tines through the clutch system.
• When the lever is released [5], the engine speed decreases
(idling) and the clutch is automatically disengaged. Driving power
is no longer transmitted to the rotating tines.
CAUTION :
• Always tighten the throttle lever fully [6] when using the motor
hoe. Leaving the lever half-way could damage the internal parts.
ADJUSTING THE WORKING
DEPTH
The working depth varies
according to the position of the
depth bar.
In most cases, the depth bar
should be set to position [7] or [8].
If the motor hoe tends to move
forward too quickly, the tines do
not go deep enough (hard earth)
or the handgrips are too low for
you, lower the depth bar by one
notch to position [9] or [7].
If the motor hoe digs too deep
(soft earth) or the handgrips are
too low, raise the depth bar by one
notch to position [8] or [10].

TRANSPORT WHEELS

Use the transport wheels [11] to
take the motor hoe to the location
where work is to be performed.
Select the appropriate hole so
that the handlebar is adjusted to a
height at which the motor hoe can
be operated comfortably.
Installation of wheels:
1. Switch off the engine and remove the spark plug cap [12].
2. Check that the fuel tank cap and the oil tank plug are properly
closed. Tip the motor hoe forwards so that it rests on the front
guard of the engine.
3. Remove the split pin [13] and then pin [14]. Remove the depth
bar [15].
4. Position the wheels at the desired height, lock the assembly with
pin [14] and split pin [13].
Before starting work, remove the rear wheel and install the
depth bar.
