The SACI PUMPS Firefighting groups are made up of one, two or more main pumps & the jockey pump. Each main pump is
automatically controlled by the signal of a pressure switch to which it is assigned, the kickoff values are set according to the pressure
and flow requirements of the installation. The pumps kickoff is phased in or numbered depending on the equipment type, if it is
made either of main or reserve pumps.
The working cycle is as follows:
1- The installation is pressurized, if there is some small leakage, the Jockey pump will offset these losses being responsible for
maintaining the lines with optimum pressure. (for which the Jockey pump's kickoff has to be set to at least 1 bar. above
the any main pump's kickoff, and when shutting-down it must be set to at least 0.5 bar. above the designed nominal
pressure of the group).
2- In case of fire (or evidence with the test collector using a flow-meter) having a very low pressure, kickoff the Jockey pump
and if it cannot compensate, the pressure will continue to lower and the main pumps will start working with a kickoff
pressure gradually not less than 80% of the nominal pressure before the pressure drops to a value not less than 60% of
the nominal pressure according to the design characteristics of the group.
NOTE: The main groups will continue to operate until they are manually shut-down by the panel, and when any
of the main pumps' engines is electric, it should kickoff first.
11. CROSS-CHECKS BEFORE STARTING THE EQUIPMENT.
Cross-checks on electric engines.
Prior to the electrical joining, special attention has to be given to the installation's voltage, if it is
equal to the nominal voltage marked on the plate of the electric engine and as well as on the control
panels. For an optimum cooling provide the minimum required spacing between the fan and engine walls.
Cross-checks on diesel engines.
Check that the engine is connected and the tank is full of fuel. Provide the appropriate connection for
the exhaust pipe in order to assure proper fumes ventilation and avoid possible poisoning.
Check the oil level and its pressure. Check that the batteries are connected and charged, leaving them to charge
for at least a day before the kickoff.
Check that the air preload pressure of the equipment's membrane accumulator is equal to the minimum connecting level of the
equipment's jockey pump (kickoff pressure lower than that of the main pumps). Not having liquid pressure must be taken into
account.
If a test flow-meter collector is available (according to standard regulations), check that the installation is according to the specific
instructions in order to get a correct flow reading.
If the equipment has negative suction and for which the priming tank is optionally equipped, make sure that the water level is as
needed.
Check that we have connected the drain outlet of the safety valves installed at the main pumps' drive, and that these are set
according to the exhaust pressure somewhat lower than the maximum working pressure of the pumps.
