4 Selection of orthosis sizes
The Genu Immobil Vario T is only available in one size. The length can be adjusted to the leg with
the telescopic joints (fig. 1).
5 Trial fitting and delivery of the orthosis
The initial fitting and application of the Genu Immobil Vario T knee orthosis must be carried out
by qualified personnel. On delivery of the orthosis to the patient, the orthosis must be checked
for correct fit. Make sure that the mid-patella is in line with the orthotic joints. You can also adjust
the orthotic joints according to the Nietert compromise pivot point (fig. 3). The patient is to be
instructed how to handle and use the knee orthosis.
6 Application of the 0rthosis
The Genu Immobil Vario T knee orthosis is delivered with straps closed. The joint bars consist of
anodized aluminum, the pads consist of 44 % cotton, 38 % polyester and 18 % polyamide. Only
cotton comes in direct contact with the skin.
6.1 Adjusting the joints
Move the catch in a proximal direction and simultaneously set the position of the flexion stop or
extension stop to the desired angle and finally release the catch. This will cause fixation of the
stops in the desired position.
CAUTION
Improper adjustment of the orthotic joints
Risk of injury and damage to the orthosis
f Make sure that the adjustment of both orthotic joints is equal.
6.2 Application of the orthosis
After applying the knee joint on the knee pivot point (fig. 3), first close the calf strap below the
knee joint (fig. 4; 5). Subsequently close the femoral strap which is closer to the knee. Finally, the
ankle strap and upper femoral strap follow (fig. 6).
CAUTION
Improper changes of joint settings
f Adjustments of the joint bars may only be made by qualified personnel.
f Adjust the orthosis so that the joint bars are parallel to each other and that the joints are at
the same height.
