1. General information
Hoods SR 561 and SR 562 can be used together with fan unit SR
500 EX in explosive atmospheres. SR 561 and SR 562 may also be
used together with the standard fan SR 500/SR 700 or compressed
air attachment SR 507 but in this case only in environments which
are not potentially explosive. Before use, these user instructions
and those for the fan units, filters and compressed air attachment
must be thoroughly studied. Connect the breathing hose to the fan,
which is equipped with filters. The positive pressure generated in
the head top prevents particles and other pollutants from entering
the breathing zone.
If you feel uncertain about the selection and care of the equipment,
consult your work supervisor or get in touch with the sales outlet.
You are also welcome to get in touch with the Technical Service
Department at Sundström Safety AB.
Use of a respirator must be part of a respiratory protection program.
For advice see EN 529:2005 or AS/NZS 1715:2009.
The guidance contained in these standards highlights important
aspects of a respiratory protective device program but does
not replace national or local regulations.
Applications
The SR 561/SR 562 together with fan SR 500/SR 500 EX/
SR 700 or compressed air attachment SR 507 can be used as an
alternative to filter respirators in all situations in which these are
recommended. This applies particularly to work that is hard, warm
or of long duration. When selecting the head top, some of the fac-
tors that must be taken in to account are as follows:
• Types of pollutants
• Concentrations
• Work intensity
• Protection requirements in addition to the need for respiratory
protection device
Risk analysis should be carried out by a person who has suitable
training and experience in the area.
The SR 561 has the following characteristics:
• The SR 561 (Fig.1) protects the respiratory organs, head and
shoulders
• The SR 562 (Fig. 2) protects the respiratory organs and top of
the head
• Replaceable hood of Tyvec
• Visor of PETG
• The air supplied keeps the visor demisted
• Adjustable head harness
• Adjustable neck seal (SR 561) and face seal (SR 562)
• Flexible breathing hose (SR 569)
• Equipped with exhalation valve (SR 562).

2. Warnings/limitations
Warnings
The equipment must not be used
• If the fan is not running. In this abnormal situation, the equipment
will provide no protection. In addition, there is risk of carbon
dioxide quickly accumulating in the head top, which would lead
to oxygen deficiency.
• if the surrounding air does not have a normal oxygen content,
• if the pollutants are unknown,
• In environments that are immediately dangerous to life and health
(IDLH),
• with oxygen or oxygen-enriched air,
• if you find it difficult to breathe,
• if you can smell or taste the pollutants,
• if you experience dizziness, nausea or other discomfort.
Limitations
• If the user is exposed to very high work intensity, partial vacuum
may occur in the head top during the inhalation phase, which
may involve the risk of leakage into the head top.
• If the face seal is not in contact with the face (SR 562), the head
top will not be pressurized as necessary for providing the correct
protection factor.
• The protection factor may be reduced if the equipment is used
in surroundings in which high wind speeds occur.
• The equipment must seal against the face in order to ensure
that the hood will be pressurized as necessary for preventing
leakage into the hood. This may be difficult to achieve if the user
wears a beard or sideboards.
• Make sure that the breathing hose does not form a loop that
could hook onto some object in your surroundings.
• Never lift or carry the equipment by the breathing hose.
3. Use
Unpacking
The hood is delivered fully assembled and ready for use. Check
that the equipment has not been damaged in transit.
Putting the equipment on
See also the user instructions for fan unit SR 500/SR 500 EX/
SR 700 or compressed air attachment SR 507 whichever is used.
• SR 561, long hood: Grip both sides of the hood opening with
your hands. Fig 5. Draw the hood carefully over your head.
• SR 562, short hood: grip the hose mounting with one hand
and the neck section of the hood with the other. Fig. 6.
• Insert your chin into the hood. Keep your grip of the hood and
draw it over your head.
• Adjust the hood so that it seals all the way round your face (short
hood SR 562) and fits closely and comfortably. The rubber band
in the face seal (short hood SR 562) or the neck band (long hood
SR 561) can be adjusted to the required length.
• If necessary, adjust the width of the hood by means of the knob
right at the back of the head harness. Fig. 7. The knob is located
on the inside of the hood below the hose, but can be reached from
the outside without removing the hood. Turn the knob clockwise
to reduce the width and anti-clockwise to increase it.
• In order to ensure a perfect fit, it may be necessary to remove
the hood and adjust the depth of the head harness. Fig. 7.
• Make sure that the breathing hose runs along your back and
that it is not twisted. Fig. 8.
