The abrasive sheet must be drawn as tight
as possible for efficient sanding, as a loose
sheet can slip on the work surface.
SELECTING THE SANDING SHEET
Depending on the material to be worked and
the required rate of material removal, differ-
ent sanding sheets are available:
Grain size
For the working of
all wooden materials
For coarse-sanding,
coarse
e. g. of rough, unplaned
beams and boards
For face sanding and
medium
planing small irregularities
For finish and fine san-
fine
ding of hard woods
Grain size
For the working of
paint/enamel coats or
primers and fillers
For sanding off paint
coarse
For sanding primer
medium
For final sanding of
fine
primers before coating
Operation
STARTING OPERATION
Observe correct mains voltage! The
voltage of the power source must
agree with the voltage specified on
the nameplate of the machine. Power
tools marked with 230 V can also be
operated with 220 V.
SWITCHING ON AND OFF
To start the machine, tilt the On/Off switch A
toward the right to the "I" position.
To switch off the machine, tilt the On/Off
switch A toward the left to the "0" position.
WORKING ADVICE
Wait until the machine has come to a stand-
still before placing it down.
This sander has benn designed for even
weight distribution which virtually eliminates
the use of pressure. Excessive pressure to
the sander may result in an uneven sanding
job and premature can cause overheating
and possible damage to the as well as pre-
mature wear out the pad on hook and loop
40-240
models.
It's usually best to work in strokes that
parallel the grain, using some lateral mo-
tion so the main strokes are overlapped as
much as 75%.
40,60
If the surface is rough, start sanding with
a coarse grit sheet, then medium and then
finish with a fine or extra fine abrasive. This
80,120
procedure will vary with different types of
materials and work. Continue to sand with
each grit until the surface looks uniform.
180, 240
When going from one grit size to a finer size,
do not skip more than two sizes.
To remove the greatest amount of stock, use
a coarse grit and move sander steadily over
40-120
the entire surface against the grain as well
as with the grain. DO NOT REMAIN IN SPOT
TOO LONG. It may remove too much mate-
rial and uneven sanding will result. Sanding
with the grain of the wood gives the smooth-
40,60
est final finish.
Additional abrasive sheets can be conve-
80,120
niently cut from large-size commercially
available sheets (standad size: 9" x 11-
180, 240
1/16"; 228 x 280mm). Cut into four pieces
of equal size as shown (Fig. 3). Choose the
proger grit for the job.
Maintenance and Service
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Before any work on the machine itself,
pull the mains plug.
For safe and proper working, always
keep the machine and ventilation slots
clean.
If the machine should fail despite the care
taken in manufacturing and testing pro-
cedures, repair should be carried out
