Basics

1.1 Approved/Intended Use

The ViscoPump II module is a functional unit used to determine absolute and relative viscosity of liquid media.
The module is controlled exclusively through the use of a special program to be run either on a computer or
on a suit able control unit (such as the AVS®470 Viscosity Meas uring Unit). The module forms an integral part a
viscosity measuring device and is designed for being built into the respective device or controller unit.

1.2 Safety guidelines

The Development and production of the ViscoPump II module is done within a system which meets
the requirements laid down in the DIN EN ISO 9001 standard. It was manufactured and tested according to
DIN EN 61 010, Part 1, Protective Measures for electronic measurement devices and control devices s and has
left the factory in an impeccable condition as concerns safety technology. In order to maintain this condition
and to ensure safe operation, the user should observe the notes and warning information which marked by "
" contained in the present operating instructions.
The ViscoPump II modules control the entire measurement process!
(among other things the temperature pre-adaptation process of the samples in the viscometers, the
process of pumping the liquid up into the storage containers of the viscometers, the measurement
of the flow times etc.)
If the module is incorporated into an AVS®370 or AVS®470 Viscosity Measuring Unit, please verify after start-up
that the proper operating mode is set, i.e. "sucking" or "pressing" action; these operating modes can be seen
on the corresponding LED on the front panel of the AVS®470, or in the context menu of the WinVisco software
of the AVS®370 Viscosity Meas uring Unit, respectively. Please refer to the operat ing in structions of the device
concerned to make the proper setting for the application, and make sure to use the suitable hose set.
For reasons of safety, the ViscoPump II modul must be opened by authorised persons
only!
This means, for instance, that work on electrical equipment must only be performed by qualified
specialists. In the case of unauthorised intervention in the Visco Pump II modul, as well as in the case
of negligently or deliberately caused damage, the warranty will become void.
The installed safety units must never be disabled!
If it has to be assumed that safe operation is impossible, the ViscoPump II modul has to be
put out of the device and secured against inadvertent putting to operation!
(In this case please switch the basic unit off, pull plug of the mains cable out of the mains socket,
remove the modul and return it to the SI Analytics service department).
Examples for the assumption that a safe operation is no longer possible,
• the package is damaged,
• the unit shows visible damages,
• the unit does not function properly
• liquid has penetrated into the casing.
The ViscoPump II modul must not be operated or stored in moist rooms and - for safety
reasons - must be used solely for the applications described in this operating manual!
The relevant regulations regarding the handling of the substances used have to be
observed (the Decree on Hazardous Matters, the Chemicals Act, and the rules and information
of the chemicals trade)! Please wear protective glasses ever!
It has to be ensured on the side of the user that the persons entrusted with the use of the unit are
experts in the handling of substances used in the environment and in the unit or that they are supervised by
specialised persons, respectively.
Please read the separate operating instructions of the transparent thermostats as well.
