PHOTO 46. Glue the parts (nos. 73 to 77) to the hull. Decorate the door (no. 74) before gluing it in place. If you want stain the parts (no. 77).
Check on plan 2 to make up the part (no. 75).
PHOTO 47. Make two vertical slots on each side of the rudder, using a saw. Adjust the size of the hinge, using snipping pliers. To do so check
plan 1. Make up the rudder blade using the parts shown in the image (stain them if you ant). Join the rudder blade to the hull with the hinges.
PHOTO 48. Decorate the doors (no. 74) and glue them to the frame that is below the indicated deck. Cut out and glue the pillars (no. 81) and
the two brackets (no. 82). Fit the columns (no. 83) into place and attach the handrails (nos. 84 and 85) to them.
PHOTO 49. Make up the channels (nos. 86 and 87). Make 1 mm diameter holes and attach the brackets (no. 82). Glue them to the bulwarks.
Make up the samson posts (no. 88), make the recesses using a round file, or cut them out using a cutter. Glue them in place as indicated in plan
2.
PHOTO 50. Make up the channels (no. 89) with the brackets (no. 82) and glue them to the hull. See plan 2. Make up the bucket box (nos. 91,
92 and 93); glue it onto the pillar brackets. The samson posts (no. 90) must be cut and glued into place as shown in plan 2.
PHOTO 51. Make a rebate in the strakes in order to fit the fenders (nos. 96 and 97) in the nest step. Cut put and glue the fenders (no. 94).
PHOTO 52. Glue a first level of fenders (no. 96) and over these two of the fenders (no. 97). Above the fenders (no. 94) glue the fenders (no.
95), then above these glue the finials (no. 98) and file down the ends so that they are rounded.
PHOTO 53. Glue the basis of the stairs (nos. 99 and 101) and onto these the rungs (nos. 100 and 102). Check the photo to see how they are
fitted and laid out.
PHOTO 54. Add the parts (nos. 104 and 105) and the eyebolts (B) to the bell tower (no. 103) and then glue it to the forecastle deck. Fit the
columns (no. 83) and the handrails (no. 106). Incorporate the eyebolts (B).
PHOTO 55. These parts are made of a ductile metal. Before gluing them in place they must be bent to adapt to the curve of the upper stern and
gallery sides. When this has been painted it can be glued in place, using quick-drying glue.
PHOTO 56. Centre and fit the parts (no. 107) into place. Paint or decorate the quarter galley bases (no. 111) and the taffrails (no. 112), before
fitting them in place. Also fit eyebolts as indicated.
PHOTO 57. Paint and then glue the parts (no. 113) using the same configuration shown. Make up the chain plate (no. 114), along with the
clump blocks (H). Fit the eyebolts to complete the channels, pinning them to the hull. See plan 1.
PHOTO 58. Glue the rubbing strake (no. 115) into place below the decoration (no. 109). Retouch if necessary. Make a 1.5 mm diameter hole in
which to fit the fanal, as shown in step 66.
SUPERSTRUCTURE
PHOTO 59. Fit the strips (no. 16) for the grating together, until completing a part with 30 units. For this process use quick-drying glue.
PHOTO 60. The sections of grating are cut to size as the parts that make them up are assembled. Take the measurements from plan 2. Having
reached this stage of the assembly of the model, follow the established numerical order and make up the parts indicated in this section. Some of
these parts have to be painted and decorated, to do so use water-based acrylic paints. The parts, once assembled, will have to be glued in
place as shown in the images and laid out as indicated in the plans. Use quick-drying glue to assemble the parts and fit them into place.
PHOTO 61. Assemble and decorate the anchors and their stocks (nos. 169 and 170). Attach the cables (no. 171) to the ring (K) at the end of
the anchor. Attach a pulley (E) using the slings (C).
PHOTO 62. Paint the boat hull (no. 172) dark brown. Make up the boarding (no. 173) at the bottom of the hull. Finally fit the thwarts (no. 174)
into place.
PHOTO 63. The boat is supported by two supports (no. 175) fitted over the deck beams. Use the tackle (no. 176) to hold it in place, along with
the eyebolts (B).
PHOTO 64. Fit the anchors into place, tying them down with a lanyard (no. 244). The anchor cables (no. 171) must be threaded through the
hawses. Previously make a 3 mm diameter hole in the hull. Fit a block (D); tie it off to an eyebolt (B), by means of a sling (C) on each side of the
hull. Give shape to the figurehead (no. 177), to adapt it to the stem, decorate it and glue it to the pendant (no. 178).
PHOTO 65. Fit the eyebolts (B) as indicated and the tackle (no. 176). In this photo you can see a close up of the mast lanyards (no. 244). See
plan 5, figure A.
PHOTO 66. Make up the fanal assembly using the parts indicated. The decoration (no. 183) is attached by twisting two lengths of brass wire
and gluing them to the side of the window (no. 182). The flag mast is inserted and glued to the supports (no. 179).
MASTS AND RIGGING
In order to make up the masts the first step is to cut the rods to size, as indicated in the parts list, or by taking measurements directly from plans
3 and 4, which are printed in 1/1 scale.
All of the masts and yards have a certain conical shape to them.
PHOTO A. In order to achieve this conical shape for the masts, sand down the rod (using a sander), sanding down more as you get closer to
the end where you want to decrease the diameter. Roll the rod so that the wear is the same all round it.
PHOTO B. Repeat the above operation until the diameter is as indicated in the plan. Note the difference between a treated rod and another that
has not been worked on.
PHOTO C. To ensure the conical shape of the yards carry out the same operations as above, only this time at both ends of the rod.
In order to make up the masks for this model correctly you must take the following into account:
-
Plans
-
The close up photos of the masts
-
The measurements and description of the materials given in the parts list
-
The "IP" Parts Identification sheets
The masts must be varnished and some of the parts that make them up will have to be painted. See close up photos of the masts.
Once the masts have been assembled and varnished attach their tackle (slings, blocks, eyebolts, clump blocks, etc.) and attach them to the
ship. The masts must be inserted until they come up against the slots of in the false keel.
RUNNING GEAR
In order to make up the running gear for this ship follow the alphabetic order printed together with the instructions, indicating the order for fitting
(ropes, clump blocks, blocks, etc.). See plan 5.
Use plan 3 to identify the sails. The lengths of rope that hang from the centre of the sails, called reefs, have been stitched on apart, using 0,50
mm brown thread.
To simulate the aging of the sails, boil them in tea.
