DIRECT RADIATION WITH TWIN SYSTEMS
Very high radiation levels can be achieved with this method, which consists of mounting
two identical drivers into the same enclosure. The drivers need to be perfectly matched in their
characteristics, as otherwise unwanted mutual loading may develop. This technique represents
a 3dB radiation increment in comparison to single driver configurations.
Both 15'' speakers feature 100 mm voice coils and withstand maximum excursion up to
4mm. For the high-frequency way, a neodymium motor has been used along with a 2''
ferrofluid voice coil and a titanium diaphragm coupled to a plastic-moulded antiresonant
constant-directivity "phase plug" diffusor. These pieces are placed between the diaphragm and
the horn throat, avoiding cancellation of certain critical frequencies.
ACOUSTIC ENCLOSURES
Wood and construction
If the employed components represent 51% of the success of an acoustic system, the
remaining 49% belongs to the acoustic enclosure and its construction. The plywood panels
used on the EPC is very stiff and light. The boxes feature braces which minimize coloration
caused by surface vibration. Constructed with 15 mm plywood, the midrange and high-
frequency cabinets include a wooden ring inside the box which snugly fits around the tweeter
motor thus reinforcing its subjection and protecting the diffusor from possible impacts or
vibrations. Its trapezoidal shape has a 6° angle on each side. The low frequency cabinet is built
from 18 mm birch plywood. Both enclosures feature inset handles to make transporting and
handling easier.
Absorbers
Inside the box, stationary waves can originate and affect the sound purity. One way to
minimize this effect is to use absorbers. EPC cabinets use antiallergic, oncologically inoffensive
synthetic fibre glued onto the inner box walls.
Painting
A new resin-based chemical component provides a high durability treating, being scratch
and bump resistant.
Hardware
The loudspeakers are protected with a foam-covered metal grille, preserving them from
dust and splashings. The midrange and high frequency cabinets feature a fitting which, once
the protecting plate is removed, allow the use of a flying suspension system such as ATM's
"MEGS PIVOTAL SERIES". Ask your distributor for further details. They are delivered with
disassembled metallic stands.
