STEP BY STEP THROUGH THE DPC7000
REDUCED DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT HIGH PERFORMANCE
In the last years, the evolution of professional sound systems has been certainly influenced by
two facts: The reduction of acoustic cabinet size and the ever increasing output power of amplifiers.
Systems are now lighter, smaller and more portable, while the sound quality approaches more and more
that of a Hi-Fi system. Electronics is the key of this advances. The components generally called
"processors" are able to push a sound system to its limits. These intelligent electronic systems,
sometimes contained in the amplifier itself, but in most cases mounted into dedicated processor units,
constantly monitor the systems operating conditions. The result is a total reliability as far as the systems
behaviour is concerned, which is the main obsession when installing professional sound systems.
THREE-WAY SYSTEMS: THE PERFECT SOLUTION
This is the optimal system to achieve faithful voice and music reproduction. It's a fact that the
human ear is more sensible in the central portion of the audible spectrum, which enables us to easily
recognize any kind of irregularity in this frequency range. This justifies the need for a dedicated driver for
the reproduction of the human voice, which ranges from 200 to 1500Hz).
The overall structure of the DPC systems is based on two cabinets: The first one only reproduces
the lowest frequencies below 150Hz, while the second one reproduces both the midrange (from 150Hz
to 1500Hz) and the high frequencies (from 1500Hz to 22kHz).
FOLDED HORN TECHNOLOGY
The design of practical and easily transportable loudspeaker enclosures for the reproduction of
low frequencies using folded horn configuration has always been a challenge for acoustic designers. An
accurate reproduction of very low frequency signals involves very long horn lengths (e.g. 6.9 meters for
50Hz. Folding the horn is the only solution to overcome this physical inconvenience.
The DPC7000 employs a highly effective bass reproduction system based on two complementary
enclosures, which should be placed so that their lateral triangular marks are face to face (see paragraph
3.1.). The DPC118 enclosures employ an incredibly efficient tractix type folded horn design. This
approach permits the use of longer horns which amplify the bass frequencies while keeping the
enclosure size to a minimum and thus making them easily transportable. On the other hand, this
acoustically optimized system guarantees high efficiency and low distortion. The final result is an
enclosure that offers 6dB more per Watt on average than a standard bass-reflex enclosure with two 18''
drivers. As a consequence, less enclosures and less amplification are necessary for a given installation.
The 18'' speakers (45.7 cm) mounted on the DPC118 employ a powerful neodymium magnet and
a 100mm voice coil. The speaker is able to withstand maximum excursions up to 20mm and input power
of 1200W AES.
