MIG WELDING OPERATIONS
For MIG welding, an auxiliary winder must be connected to the power unit. Select the connection polarity according
to the type of wire that is going to be used. Generally, the reel is always connected to the positive pole. However, for
welding cored wires without shielding gas, the reel must be connected to the negative pole. In case you require shiel-
ding gas, this must be connected to the auxiliary winder. The winder can be powered by the welding power outlets.
Select the CV mode for MIG-MAG welding.
The adjustable parameters for the CV mode are summarized in the following table.

It is necessary to know the speed and welding voltage characteristics for the wire material that is going to be used.
From the power unit, you can adjust the average welding voltage as well as the arc dynamics. However, the wire
feed speed must be adjusted in the auxiliary winder. See the winder manual to compensate the setting.
For MIG-MAG welding processes prior preparation of the wire feeding system is required.
The wire feeding system must be prepared with the suitable options for the material used. You must install the appro-
priate rollers for the material in use and set the roller pressure to minimum so that the wire is pulled tightly, but can
skid if there is a blockage in the wire feed guide.
Follow the procedure below for set the roller pressure correctly:
1- Press the threading button until the welding wire emerges through the torch.
2- Decrease the roller pressure to its minimum.
3- Place the torch at an angle of 45º with the nozzle about 5 cm from a wooden surface.
4- Press the threading button, so that the wire emerges onto the wooden surface.
5- Increase the roller pressure until the wire stops skidding and can move forward. After that, give one more half turn
to the slack adjuster.
6- If the wire always skids, even with the maximum pressure, this indicates that there is a problem in the wire feeding
system. You should check the wire guide (towline), brake setting, state of the contact tip and roller wear.

causes a harder arc with more projections. A negative
