Safety Warnings
WARNING: Do not use hydrocarbon-based solvents, lubricants or
cleaning agents of any type on or around Bose speakers, and associated
mounting hardware, during installation. The use of such hydrocarbon-
based lubricants, solvents or cleaning agents on or around the mounting
anchors and screws can lead to degradation of the plastic material,
possibly resulting in cracking and premature failure of the product. If these
mounting components break, the loudspeaker could fall and result in
personal injury or property damage.
Clean loudspeakers with a dry cloth only.
WARNING: If the loudspeaker cannot be installed with the included safety
cable, do not install the loudspeaker.
Bose requires the use of the included safety cable to secure the loudspeaker
to a building support structure. Choose a mounting position, method, and
hardware consistent with local building codes and regulations.
If the loudspeaker falls and is retained by the safety cable at any time
(including during the installation process), replace the safety cable with a
new one. Do not use the safety cable that retained the fallen loudspeaker.
Please also read the included Gripple® installation guidelines to ensure
safe connection of the Gripple fastener.
Safety Cable Specifications
The length of the included safety cable is:
For Flush-mount (In-ceiling) Loudspeakers: 6.1 m (20.0 ft)
For Surface-mount Loudspeakers: 1.5 m (5.0 ft)
If your installation requires a longer safety cable, use one that adheres to the
specifications below.
Material: Galvanized high-tensile steel to EN12385
Cable Diameter: 2 mm (5/64 in)
Strand Configuration: 7 × 7
If the Gripple safety cable is too short, you may substitute a longer safety cable only
if it meets the specifications listed above. Failure to meet these requirements could
cause the loudspeaker to fall and result in personal injury or property damage.
Ensure the cable is properly attached to the loudspeaker and the building
structure so that the loudspeaker is retained in the event of a fall.
If you provide your own cable, you must remove the slack from the safety cable
such that, in the event of a fall, the top (rear) of the loudspeaker will drop to a
distance of no more than 152 millimeters (6 inches) below the ceiling (if it is a
flush-mount loudspeaker) or from its mounted location (if it is a surface-mount
loudspeaker) before it is retained by the safety cable.
If you are not able to install the Bose-provided cable or a longer substitute that
meets the requirements that Bose has provided, do not install the loudspeaker
and return it to Bose for a refund.
