Disinfecting, cleaning and sterilizing the Piezon handpiece and instruments
Always pull the Piezon handpiece (7) off the handpiece hose (6) after completing
treatment. Shake the water out of both parts. This prevents short circuiting in the
handpiece hose plug.
Disinfect and clean the Piezon handpiece (7) and instruments (8-10) prior to sterilizing.
Use a commercially available colourless disinfectant.
Caution - Do not immerse the Piezon handpiece (7) in liquid disinfectants. This may
damage the handpiece.
You can also unscrew the front section of the Piezon handpiece (7) to facilitate
cleaning of the handpiece.
Caution - Never sterilize the handpiece in a chemical vapour or hot-air sterilizer. This
may damage the handpiece.
After treatment, always sterilize the Piezon handpiece (7), the instruments (8-10) and
the torque wrench (11) in the EMS Steribox (12) supplied. Place the EMS Steribox in
an autoclave and sterilize at up to 135°C for at least 3 minutes.
Before remounting the Piezon handpiece (7) check the O-ring (36) of the plug. If the O-
ring (36) is damaged or worn, water may leak from the coupling. This could lead to
short circuiting in the handpiece hose plug. Therefore, replace the O-ring (36) if it is
damaged or worn.

The AirFlow unit

Preparing for treatment

Couple a sterilized AirFlow nozzle (20) onto the bayonet catch of the sterilized AirFlow
handpiece barrel (19). Rotate the AirFlow nozzle (20) one sixth of a turn clockwise until
the two spots are aligned. The AirFlow handpiece has now been mounted. Couple the
mounted AirFlow handpiece to the AirFlow handpiece hose (18). Turn the AirFlow
handpiece one quarter of a turn clockwise until the two dots are aligned.
Please note - Spectacles must be removed before commencing treatment with the
AirFlow S2 as the treatment would dirty them.
Danger - Before setting the water flow rate and air/powder mixture, you and the patient
should put on safety glasses. A powder jet aimed inadvertently at the eyes may injure
them seriously. We also recommend that the operator wears a face mask.
